The Ratings Thread (Part 13)

Oh yeah, I forgot Lark Rise is a 8pm show. In that case they could have all three of those dramas on Sunday nights in January.

Will the new MasterChef be once a week or twice? I think if it's once a week, it could launch in late-January/early-Feb and air on Wednesdays at 8pm.

So you should only be offered work if you suck up to your employer? I've read some nonsense but this takes the biscuit.

I like this idea. The Friday episode could be ditched as generally there are less viewers around for this one, especially in the summer.

At the moment Channel 5 is airing around 220 episodes a year (the maximum possible) with 8 weeks and bank holidays off. Under your idea it would air around 208 a year, or 204 with a 1 week break for Christmas. The latter would put Australia 16 episodes ahead per year so that eventually some years down the line C5 could return the Friday episode.

Of course this would mean that episodes would not always air on the days they were intended for, but I don't see this as a massive issue as H&A rarely have big Friday cliffhangers nowadays.

As for whether it would be considered, I'm not sure. I think it could be a more practical option than the current arrangement.

Thursday seems to be the night that multichannels excel in. Some impressive ratings for: Celebrity Juice, Idiot Abroad, Russell Howard, Hollyoaks Later and I'm sure Katie Price did well too.

Considering it finishes at midnight, I can't see it doing very well at all. Maybe 3m for the first part at most.

ABC notched up its 6th Monday win in a row, posting year-to-year gains on all of them. Meanwhile, NBC posted its first year-to-year loss on a Monday. In premiere week, NBC started out 17% of last year but the lead diminished as The Event and Chase fell back. Last night, it trailed 2009 by 11%.

Noel has just signed for another two years of DOND. But it's interesting that BBC Studios have taken over production of the show although it's staying in Bristol. I guess Noel could do both if necessary.

ABC might have something to celebrate about as Charlie Brown helped their 8pm slot to its average level, after first two weeks of My Generation flop and GA repeats. Plus, Private Practice held steady on their 18-49 demo and their total viewers numbers increased a bit. According to ABC press release, PP have won the 18-34 demo (10pm slot) for six consecutive weeks (http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/10/2...-marks-most-watched-thursday-in-5-weeks/70125).

NBC comedy lineups improved for their Halloween specials. Some say that the Shrek special may have helped a bit. Of course, The Apprentice looks dismally the odd one out. The Vampire Diaries beat The Apprentice in 18-49. CBS proved to be total viewers dominant, as well as performing solidly for their 18-49. The Big Bang Theory still gets terrific numbers, although their 18-49 numbers are far off from last season, where they would get 5 to 6 points almost every week, IIRC.

FOX was all repeats on Sunday night.

Even though DH dropped in total viewers, I think DH is still doing good, especially how most scripted shows perform these days. Though I must say that the final total viewers looks suspiciously odd, since it looks VERY similar to the overnight numbers. Nevertheless, having a 3.9 for three weeks in a row shows how good the show can hold up. Plus, the total viewers had worse days last season, when the latter half (Feb-May) had around 10-11m.

ABC and CBS have been seeing drops on Sunday, mainly because the Sunday Night Football on NBC featured a high-profiled player, Brett Favre. Yet still, both networks held well. Not bad at all, in my opinion.
