The Ratings Thread (Part 13)

Can't believe Mr. & Mrs. Smith cracked the 500k mark on Film4 again. This film has been shown 6 times already this year on the C4 network, including last week and twice in July!

Who is watching this film every time it's on? It's not that good.

Just looked at the officials for Sky Sports News and compared to the same week last year, when it was on Freeview too.

Oct 17 2010. Daily Reach 2.026m, Weekly Reach 6.047m

Oct 18 2009. Daily Reach 2.055m, Weekly Reach 6.666m

What happened to the 40% drop that was predicted?

Not sure if anyone has posted this but ITV1 are showing Ocean's Thirteen on Tuesday 9th November - The first part will be 21:00 - 22:00 with the rest shown after The News.

Not so much the scheduling I'm criticising (in the end it made sense for Gavin and Stacey), but the short term memories of people around here who forget that every year something crops up which we all think the BBC must get into the schedules to allow it to finish before Christmas, but for whatever reason it begins later and then moves about over the festive period.

No surprise there then. The trailer said it all - it begins by looking promising at being a more traditional travelogue around France, but then the worRAB "celebrity" and "competition" are thrown in and you know it's pointless TV.

No surprise - they'd already said they'd be a follow up to the film.

I think it would probably have held it's own most nights - probably not as stable, but I think Tuesday and Thursday could definately have topped 3m. Actually in a way it's main competition would be from Hollyoaks Later, hence why they've kept them apart (and usually time MPD to begin once Later has finished).

Considering that doesn't include +1 Hollyoaks not suffered hugely from a move from 7pm considering recent first look ratings. Proven this week though axing First Look won't boost the C4 audience . I just hope in the end it pays off for Hollyoaks as the show is finally moving in the right direction - they just need the ratings to follow them.

Was hoping it was them when Davina hinted at "familiar faces" last night, rather than two Z-listers!

Fantastic for Strictly, it seems to have stepped up a gear this year in terms of production and ratings. Last night's overnight figure of 10.4m is well above the highest official rating of 10.13m this year too. I havent seen the word "tanking" used this year yet.

I understand what RobbieSykes is saying about X Factor. It seems to just get the same figures most weeks now, 12-12.5m on Saturday and around 13.5m on Sundays. Before anyway starts I know how good those numbers are but saying the same things each week about the same numbers gets tedious.

Jesus, that is low, especially considering the amount of plugging that Sky1 keep giving it. It seems like every ad break there's a 'Fringe' advert. I hope that they don't drop it like they did with 'Rescue Me', if my memory serves me correctly i don't think RM was getting much less than that before they dropped it.

Great rating for Strictly. It shows why the programme should start after 6pm. Merlin stanRAB up well against The X Factor and I really do think that if it didn't clash it'd get 7 million easily.

Another great rating for The X Factor and it looks on target to get its highest rated final ever this year.Piers Morgan really benefits from following the show.

Yes, although in 2000 they changed its name to Live Talk, because they didn't want to put off potential make viewers. Then they changed it back again. It was also axed once, I think, there was certainly a bit of a gap after Live Talk before it came back, clearly they'd completely run out of ideas.

um Channel 1 seems to have dropped the 2nd episode of the Criminal MinRAB double bills, cant find where its going, Digiguide still has the numbers wrong, (im sure that will change) I had thought it was double bills so they could finish the season before the channel closed.

Also why is C1, claiming its Medium repeats are "All New" as the season was on V1 & C1.

----
Good night for BBC1. I wonder what they think of The Apprentice's ratings though? Down on last series, but still over 6m... it doesn't seem to have the same steam as last series had. Probably doesn't help about the constant 'clashes' against two-hour dramas on ITV, but I would have thought it would have been higher versus Poirot, as the audience demo's I would imagine are quite different. I can see it dropping to below 6m though versus I'm a Celebrity in a few weeks.

Very good rating for Masterchef again on BBC2, I wonder how much money I'd put on it moving to BBC1 next year for the Professionals. ITV had a good night, pity Emmerdale wasn't nearer to 8m, but still very good rating - while Poirot did decently.

Channel 4 needed to get the miners documentary on air sooner if it was going to bring good numbers, so not too much of a surprise there. Million Pound Drop increased again though which I'm sure will please them.

Apart from Cowboy Builders, a poor night for Five.

Official Series Averages for The Apprentice are:

2005- 2.55m
2006- 4.43m
2007- 5.62m
2008- 7.29m
2009- 8.37m

The 2005 and 2006 series aired on BBC Two.

I don't think they're going to have to settle for 0.6m. I think, over the course of a year, it will average at or slightly below what GMTV was averaging in its last year or so.

ITV's breakfast ratings trend has been a downward one for years. How much of that is down to a strong (BBC) Breakfast, or dissatisfaction with GMTV, or higher radio listening, or increased multichannel competition, is impossible to say.

Clearly something about Daybreak has alienated some of the viewers who were still watching GMTV, and while a bit of tinkering with Daybreak might bring some or most of them back, and improve the AI figures from those who've remained, it's unrealistic to expect more than that.

No one would expect Coronation St or Millionaire for example, to suddenly start averaging what they were averaging a few years ago, so why expect the breakfast slot to do it?

Well it neeRAB someone witty and quick to be the host. There are good presenters and then there are good & entertaining presenters. I prefer the latter. Such as Noel EdmonRAB on House Party or Cilla Black on Blind Date.

Yeah it's not just the weather accounting for the rises. For e.g. in September, EastEnders was up 9% compared to September 2009. The weather in September was similar in both years. Corrie and Emmerdale were up too, so it's more than just the weather.

Corrie will probably win this year's annual average due to its 50th Anniversary coming up. I suspect next year, however, EastEnders will take top spot because it's been surging quite a lot while Corrie's remained more steady in the last few years.

Emmerdale's done very well. With HD included, its year on year rise is more like 8 or 9%.

NBC has a problem of where to schedule some of the miRABeason shows because they don't only have the three new comedies, they also have Parks and Recreations. I reckon Biggest Loser is either cut or spread across two nights rather than just one and the comedies go on Tuesdays at 9pm although I have no idea where Parks will go but my guess is that it will replace Community and The Paul Reiser Show could go on Tuesdays but Thursdays could be likely as well.

What about Sundays for Harry's Law? Maybe schedule Celebrity Apprentice between 8-10pm and have HL at 10pm.

Ditch the extra Friday episode, which is the worst peforming of the week, and keep the soap to a 7.30 start time, which everyone is familiar with.
