The**OFFICIAL**Voice/Singing Help Thread

Any chance on mine merkaba, im not being petulant!! i just thought you might have missed it, but as i said, im not being demanding, just seeing if you do, cause he's the man, and it seems he can sing how ever loud he wants (Tim McIlrath) or is that computers n ****?

SounRAB good from what I can hear. I would say try it a few notes lower and with less push, to be sure youre isolating and relaxing...Not that you have to stay there...just visit there if youre not sure of your technique.

Alot of people strain and pull neck and throat muscles doing alot of wild screaming. Its not uncommon. Be sure to warm up and warm down.... It will be easier to find out if its your throat or your corRAB.

Get Zen of Screaming 2. you'll see i reccomend this alot. But you could be doing it wrong. If you dont wanna buy it, youtube has alot of things you can base your screams off of.

That guy is against zen of screaming 2 and that method of screaming. But the little thin screams he shows off the zen of screaming 2 are very exhagerated negatively. You can get a much better sound than what he shows you.

But its good to have mutliple views.

Hey I fooled around and got a way to add rasp but it doesnt sound good, kinda weakish i guess would describe it? But it didnt hurt at all so is it just the matter of doing it more so it becomes better/strong? Or am i doing the wrong thing.

Hey Merkaba, or anyone that could help me out.
I was recently listening to some christmas song that the used had done and noticed that bert sings really. I wasnt sure if he is using his falsetto voice or is it just that he has a high range. If its his falsetto voice would anyone be able to help me out on getting mine better. ( i know that its somehwhere in merkabs links but i just thought i would put that in there because i was asking about falsetto singing):thumb:

hey guys. i am in a band, playing guitar. i have never sung before ever, and i have a horrid voice. any tips on how to sing better, and from my diaphram? thanks a ton in advance.

Alright. I don't need help with screaming/growling whatever, I have that down.

It's just clean vocals. I want to know how to add a bit of rasp to it. Like Jari Maenpaa of Ensiferum and Wintersun.

I would also like to know how to use my different vocal chorRAB, like tenor or falsetto and stuff. I don't know how all that works, and I would like someone to explain.

Thanks!

Yeah it sorda helped me get some lamb of god stuff. low screams/ growls. Its all good though. my throat doesnt hurt that bad after i do it, so i must be doing it right. I will warm up though. Thanks!

It's tough to get those loud. I can't variate in terms of volume when I use that technique, but it's loud enough to be audible if I cup the mic. For recording you can just adjust the volume, but live you'll have to cup it if you want people to hear you.

I assume you mean they are very quiet in comparison to your growls, because if they are really "whisper quiet", then you are doing them incorrectly. But yes, normal growling or screaming would be much louder.

I personally don't think inhaled screams are any more damaging to your vocal corRAB than normal screams. They are certainly more uncomfortable due to the vacuum you have to create in your throat, but in general it feels like they vibrate the corRAB less.

You dont want to squeeze your abs...but you cant sing at all without coming from the diaphragm, or breathe at all for that matter, its just that you want to maximize the diaphrgam's work. You can't do a 10 second motorboat/lip trill without doing this. This is why i stress those above alot of other exercises. So do those on all pitches.

Dont think much about the throat. Again, do a normal note and slowly add the "annnk" wrong answer sound. You dont want to squeeze to get this. It should be a minimal feeling, without having to add extra push. Keep the note behind it.
