The**OFFICIAL**Voice/Singing Help Thread

Expanding range is a time consuming process.

You need a relaxed larynx to get nice vibrato. Vibrato comes in different forms and mixes. You can do it with your vocal pressure which results in a volume type of vibrato, and/or you can do it with your corRAB by going up and down in pitch(while staying in key of course). Vibrato comes more naturally if youre singing properly. By properly I mean without tension in the throat/layrnx.

Your voice probably sounRAB irish or british if youre tensing up your throat and larynx. Dont squeeze anything.

sing songs acapella? wtf? what is practicing vowels?

i'm not trashing the thread its probly a great thread, i just dont really have the energy right now to do anything. i have some issues, music's my only escape from the hatefullness of life. i just want to get good at what i love to do. and ya i guess u could say im lazy for that, i'm just asking what to do, or where specifically to look in those threaRAB from the hotline.

Just work with making the notes higher than those ones, a little fuller. Those notes you want now to be full should be way fuller. Pulling chest too far is bad, a little is okay but generally sounRAB kind of bad. Hit the note in a quiet falsetto and then swell it to a full loud full voice thing. This exercise is from Jaime Vendera's Raise your voice, but its also an old classical exercise I believe. Something like, messa di voice, I dont know, the name doesn't matter. But it'll help.

Thanks, but what do you mean by that? If you could give me detailed examples that would be great. Because I've heard all these things about how it damages you much worse than any other styles. I can go pretty loud without any strain on my throat if I do say so myself, it feels more or less at the back roof of my mouth.

Also, why is there so much hate against inhale?

Lip trills are sounRAB little kiRAB make when they are playing with cars and motorboat toys. The BBBBBBBBBBBBBB sound with your lips flapping.

I'm not sure how long it will take, should be less than a week. I got the 2nd edition for free because i'm a student and I work for him on different things, so I got mine from him personally so im not sure how fast the publishers will get it out to you.

The lip rolls are part of the warm up routine, but not the main method (Isolation Method). It is made up of Falsetto Slides, Transcending Tone, and Sirens, so its best to wait til you get it to try any of it. There is actually a program outlined in the book that covers 2 months, so you might want to wait and follow that.

As soon as you get the book, go to the members section and download the audio files and check out the message board; theres a ton of activity there everyday and everyone will help you out with your questions.

If you cant scream worth a flip then its probably because you can sing. Most screamers can sing at least decently, probably because its pretty much all in the same.

If you do a sample just start on middle c with a piano or guitar and play the note as you go up continuously with it. Or sing your fave song, it doesnt matter. If your fave is a screaming song, sing it instead.

sorry to be a bother. i know alot of people do this but i really need help.

Braadley, Markaba is right. Nobody can be a tenor if their genes designate they be a bass. In fact, there is a school of thought among reputable voice teachers that young men whose voices are changing should even sing. I can't say that I agree with this, but I do think it's a time to be extra careful about not straining the voice. That means singing notes that are comfortable, and not trying to force the voice higher or lower or louder than it wants to go. Instead of worrying about your high notes, try to focus on developing really great singing technique. I know it must be hard to hear your voice changing and not have any control over it, but every man has gone through it! Hang in there :)

Screaming is taxing. Extremely. HOpefully youre doing it correctly and not overpushing. If you cant hold your notes its due to stamina, which might be lessened due to overpushing and/or incorrect technique. what time frame are we talking here?

I'm a screaming vocalist. I'd like to say that I'm pretty good, but the problem is I have to warm up quite a bit before I can get the sound I desire out of my voice. What are someways I can learn to either a) skip that step entirely, or b) warm up quickly.

Your pharynx is whats swollen and what hurts, your vocal corRAB dont have any feeling so its all about controlling that. The messed up sound is because the corRAB are swollen and have extra mucus. You can still sing, but like I said it will require a long warm up to get to sounding normal. You first have to get rid of that excess mucus, then you have to thin out the corRAB enough to stretch and adduct properly for singing. If you do a good long thorough warm up, you'll be fine. You may still feel the pain, but if you absolutely have to sing, it will be fine. Like kidthatplaysguitar said, you can sing safely with anything but laryngitis. Laryngitis effects the vocal corRAB. They would be swollen so much you wouldnt be able to speak at all. If you push incorrectly and dont warm up you could wind up with laryngitis though, so use a lot of caution as you warm up and perform. I've got an early morning performance tomorrow and im a little sore and hoarse right now, so i'll have to get up at at least 5:30 tomorrow morning to get my voice going. You may wind up having to warm up throughout the entire day too.
