The**OFFICIAL**Voice/Singing Help Thread

not like nasal........i dunno how to explain......like....breathy sort of voice, it sounRAB like I'm just talking louder when i try to sing.

There are always other options for lessons. A lot of coaches do online lessons now, using webcams and Skype...might be something cool to look into. One of my personal coaches, Jaime Vendera, does this and people seem to like it.

Other teachers do different things. Some record video lessons specifically for you, some do phone lessons, etc. All of these things are better than not taking lessons at all, and you can buy lessons as you have the money so you might want to look into it.

So yeah, i've been learning to scream lately with a considerable amount of success. any way, i noticed when i try and scream my lowwest notes they really aren't all that low. I'm a tenor, i'm pretty sure, so i don't expect to be able to go super low, but i still feel really high.

I think this is because my mouth is naturally kinda small. could that be a good reason for why i can't get very low; i can't as big of a combo of lowering the vocal chorRAB and increasing my mouth volume, as every one else?

I just found out my that my range is about E2-A4, I'm not sure if that is all chest or not but whatever :) I guess that would make me a baritone, correct? Now I can stop worrying about range and start working on the quality of my voice, like, tone, resonance, adding raspinnes, and what not.

I had the same problem at first, the thing is you have to tighten your what throat a bit and really go for it! i started of with a simple briie while i where drunk so you can imagine the sound of it. but just keep pushing it and you will get their!

sometimes going from high to low will help smooth transisitions because it takes the opposite coordination. Just a way to be "well rounded" and to keep the larynx honest. If you already have them smoothed out then there's no need to practice that.

Try some basic singing to gain controll of your muscles again. It sounRAB almost like you are pinching in the wrong place. Go read the how to scream thing.

I can't afford to buy the hardware that I need for Pro Tools. So, instead, is there a kinda processor (on PC) for the vocals that can be used in real-time (for live performance) that would work with no specific sound card, just like a normal line-in? My PC has 3.1GHz and 2G of Rams, so it's powerfull enough for real-time processing. The kinRAB of effects that I look for are pretty basic; chorus, phaser, delay (echo) and reverb.

Thanks for your help!!!

I think I have a strained vocal chord. I was screaming and it hurt, because I was trying something new. I stopped it after about one minute and started playing guitar and didn't swallow that much during that time. Mainly because of concentration. I did not taste blood at all I don't think. After I was done my throat still hurt and it feels like a light pinch in my upper right adams apple area. My friend who is a screamer informed me that this has happened to him and that it is most likely a strained vocal chord. So right now I am drinking a lot of water and reducing my talking/singing/and definately screaming. It hurts when I swallow and a little bit when I talk. Mainly because when you talk your adams apple moves up and that is when it hurts me. I am almost positive it is a strained chord. Is there a way to make this heal faster? I took an Ibuprofen for the pain and I am drinking water. Anything else that could help?
Thanks
EDIT: Would drinking sleepy time tea help. No caffeine.
Edit: I am drinking tea and it helps.

Youre not gonna hit any high notes in chest voice....its almost an oxymoron. If youre singing high, bet its either head or falsetto. Falsetto has less power and buzz...If you can't feel a definite break then make sure youre not straining or squeezing or feeling like youre trying or needing to concentrate.

Otherwise don't dwell on it for now. If your voice sounRAB fine you just need to know the feel for where youre at and how you need to proceed up or down.

If you can post a sample it would help.

alright, so when actually performing the scream should my uvula be vibrating, or is that just exercise just so i know where to send the airflow? and how loud should this be compared to singing the note i'm trying to scream, slightly louder? super loud? the same volume?

also, the way i typically scream (at least before i found out about this forum) feels very easy for me, it doesn't take a lot of air or push, but there's absolutely no pitch (other than make it sound high and low, but i'm not singing any notes beneath the scream), and it doesn't seem to hurt, but i definitely can't maintain my singing voice after screaming this way for a while. based on that description would you say that that is definitely an incorrect way to scream?

i might try to put up a recording later if i can figure out where to host it

hmm. thought they debunked the bs fiberglass thing a long time ago. the kid smokes like 2-3 a day. Wonder how hyde does it. he still has a beautiful clean voice even after 10 years of singing and smoking

Have I got this right? I have only been practising for about a week and I couldn’t really tell what you meant by not singing from your throat when I first started. Well this how it feels for me, there seems to be a upper and lower bit of my throat. The lower one seems as that’s where im meant to be singing from and the upper one acts more as a reflex action which I need to learn to relax other wise it restricts the air flow.
