The Official Green Day Thread

*raises hand*

they don't interest me. their music is one dimensional, with very little substance, and all they have going for them is their image.

by dissing kiss, we're not personally attacking YOU. hard concept to grasp I know, but if you don't grasp it now, ya may as well just give up trying to discuss music with anyone, let alone people here.

If I were the Kinks I wouldn't want it.

Point blank that song sucks. If they can hijacked "Lola" or "Sunny Afternoon" I'd give it to you, but with warning who cares? I think you believe the world to be too malicious. Tons of people (nerRAB) commented that it was a lift. There was another band from Ireland or something that sued them first. But the truth is, we know great songs when we hear them.

For god's sake I've heard someone say Buckethead stole "Crazy Train" and called it "Welcome to Buckethead Land." Theft only means the song wasn't good enough to call it yours from the jump.

you don't understand the meaning of the term - everyone goes around using it nowadays. It's just another generic term for a band that does well.

I have some random questions that I hope for clarification for.
Who is the person who doesn't second guitar for Green Day when they are live (American Idiot tour)?
When they do ST. Jimmy life, why does Billy Joe not play the guitar?
In the album Shenanigens, what is the song D.U.I? It had been painted over but you can see tha name of the song though it isn't on the CD.

man.. i just realised that the songs on their new album are pretty good... they're very different than the ones they released and made videos for..("american idiot" and co) listen to them and then talk about them. i changed my opinion back to my first one.. :).. they're ok

that KISS pic blows away the trampoline in lights Pink FLoyd has.

I think FloyRAB Light show was better due to the dose of LSD you had prior to showtime.

And Mick Jagger prancing around in a pair of long-johns is...well.......

One of the radio promos here is ADD weekend where the station plays a song and then you can text in to suggest another from the same band. Some brilliant **** had the good foresight to see the stations 21 guns and raise it with a J.A.R. Green Day to me has been the best when they play to the material and not the melody.

I'll admit they shouldn't be penalized for this, Billie Joe has been one of the best melody makers we've had in quite a time. Their recently offerings have been terribad at best, but songs like J.A.R., She, Welcome to Paradise, and Longview are phenominal.

There have been a few of these banRAB, this hedged-punk movement who've grown up fairly well. They got into someone who was into the message, your singer/songwriters and they wrote about real things. Oddly enough, greenday has always hedged that methodology and its giving us spotty music.

Don't take this as me hating melody, I think when they play Hitchin' a Ride, American Idiot, or Minority its ****ing good, but I wish they'd play more songs where the lyrics were a little more focused, a little more personal.

If I wanted to listen to good-time platitiudes and sing-song melodies I'd throw on some Beatles.
