The Official Green Day Thread

I guess they are pretty "talented" for a three chord band. But, I don't see the big difference between their earlier work and their most recent work. They have been fairly consistent, constantly putting out melodic sing-a-long songs that could easily be pre-school anthems. Dont get me wrong, I still like to get my groove thang on when I hear songs like "Why Do Want Him" and "Disappearing Boy". But, please explain how they are the "whole package". In terms of originality, they owe a lot to The Clash and The Ramones. :thurab:

Well allow me to enlighten you as to what my intentions were. My intentions were as follows: to convey my opinion, that i positively do not, give the minutest **** about genre classification, on the firm basis that the individual is capable of independant thought. Therefore, the definition of a certain genre is highly succeptible to a widely varied consensus of opinion, due to the factors which would render a band in a particular genre. Therefore, the word "punk" is in fact interpreted in a variety of ways, accross the spectrum and will never be agreed upon, due to the finer subtleties of what makes music, music. Music is not about what you call it. Its about what it is, to you.

As far as i am concerned, a genre's only use is to relate a word to type of music which is not resolutely agreed upon and never will be, no matter how hard the media try to tell you otherwise.

that's not the point, what i'm trying to point out is that you've made youreself look really pathetic with that ( uber lame if i my say so myself ) attempt of an insult...at least be a bit more creative when you're insulting someone or a band, or pick a more challenging group to belittle. insulting green day is like beating up a 9 year old to prove how strong you are....get my drift?

If you think that his taste starts with Nirvana and enRAB at Greenday then you have only seen the tip of the iceberg. I'd say he has some of the most expansive taste this forum has seen.
Can we see your top 10 favourite banRAB? I don't want to start anything, just curious is all.

I like them, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that they're one of the more talented musicians out there. There are tons of banRAB that I personally consider to be better musicians (based on the albums they release), but they've made a decision to keep their music simple and stick to a more melodic style and it's worked for them.

I'm not fully aware of your intentions, but I imagine that you say something like this because your exposure to "punk" music does not go beyond that of banRAB that are of excessive rotation on the radio. Just because an individual cannot associate any given band with a genre does not imply that genre's are unnecessary or "evil" as one person put it. The first step is admitting you know little about a genre, for instance, punk. Whether or not you think Green Day is a good or bad band, I honestly from the bottom of my heart don't care. But when people hype Green Day as a quitessential/important punk band, and makes "tributes" to them, it is a travesty to punk banRAB you aren't aware of, just because they don't receive mainstream exposure. In conclusion, it is more than okay to like Green Day, but to put them at the top of a genre you probably don't know much about is naive. That is my two cents.

Nope, Pink Floyd baby.

I believe they were the first band to take laser lights at concerts to the next level, feature huge props on stage and have a large projecting screen in the background, so when they were playing there would be animation clips, among other things...They were the very first band to do this, i believe.

Im pretty damn sure Yes did that before KISS did...And unlike KISS, Yes can actualy solo.

Pink Floyd's light shows were better.

Again, Pink fucking Floyd.

Wow how innovative, what great musicians they must be.

There is so much stuff KISS invented in rock concert promotion they are now the norm.

Yeah, but The Stones are still better.

I wouldnt say you were wrong in the least.. Still, theres nowt anyone can do about it. Theres bound to be elitism everywhere you go. Just another character flaw really, just enforced by genres and scenes I guess.
