The Official David Bowie Thread

you listen to ziggy stardust. then station to station. then heroes. then young americans and its four different artists. hes all time for sure.

ziggy stardust and hunky dory are my favorites i think.

Well i'm going to say the extra is the songwriting bit in these cases. I'm really uncomfortable is saying these people aren't talented!

Speaking about movies, fortunately I did sturable upon a hypnotic version of "I Can't Read" during the end credits of the film Ice Storm (the movie is worth checking out). That song is slow, brooding and absolutely mesmerizing, but is only available on that soundtrack. Tin Machine had done a more upbeat version of the song.

I just wanted you guys to put down the song that is most likely your favorite or one of your favorites for this poll.
After doing that, I'd like to hear what songs are most likely your top 3 or so favorite David Bowie tracks.Tell me why you picked those songs as your favorites too, peace!!!

Here goes:(in no order)

1.Suffragette City-This is probally my favorite song of his...
...It's a good rockin' tune that's catchy and sophisticated!!!
2.Fame-It's got a nice funky rhythm to it along with great melody.
3.Rebel Rebel-A great guitar riff that makes the song sound like Gold!!!:D
4."Heroes"-This is truly a classic song and one to be loved for years.
5.Young Americans-This song is one that is hip and makes ya wanna dance!!!
6.Ziggy Stardust-Another great song with a magical tone and good changes!!!:pimp:

That's all there is to it.Keep the votes and replys coming, guys!!!;)

I think there is some truth it it. If you listen to his first few albums Man Who Sold The World sticks out like a sore thurab. You have him basically doing folky pop on Space Oddity and then on Ziggy Stardust there's still the same sort of thing with a few rock songs as well, and in between that you have Man Who Sold The World which is essentially a heavy rock album. It's a good album but just doesn't really fit what he was doing at the time, you have to think that it's because of outside influence.

I actually have to admit to having been entirely wrong about Hunky Dory. It's way, way better than I thought it was. Now I am puzzled as to why exactly it left such an awful first impression. I can't quite put a finger on what it must have been.

I'm more a fan of the glam rock kind of sound rather than the arabient type sound.. So I'm not sure I'll like Low and "Heroes"

What sound does Bowie take on for Station to Station?

Richard Jalen is the same guy who thinks The Beatles only appeared to be good musicians because of George Martin.

I wouldn't take him too seriously. And I also find that what he usually thinks is a popular opinion really isn't.

Oh yeah, I remeraber that one. One of those I don't have a copy of myself, so I've only ever heard whenever I've watched Ice Storm. Good movie, sublime little song. Even the Tin Machine version's great stuff, which says it all really.

There's also a song from the Just a Gigolo soundtrack called Revolutionary Song, which is billed as Bowie's but only features his backing vocal. That, on the other hand, is a pretty lame song for a pretty lame movie.

I've heard talk of an unreleased soundtrack album for the Man Who Fell To Earth as well, which allegedly inspired some of the music that'd become Low and hasn't even leaked onto the bootleg circuit over the years. From what I've read it definitely does exist, it's just that tightly locked away in some maximum security vault somewhere.

I LOVE BOWIE. I have low, and ziggy stardust and they're amaze and i'm gonna be getting a few more once I get out to the CD store.
