The Official David Bowie Thread

Bowies 'Space Oddity' HAS to be an improvement over his debut. I don't rate 'Diamond Dogs' all that either but then Glam era Bowie is not my fave either. I prefer the Warsaw years but I also like a lot of his 90's output too-'Outside' and 'Earthling' are good albums. Mind you I like the first 'Tin Machine' album and as far as I can tell, I am the only one on these forums who does.

i seen bowie live in sydney around 78/79. i think around the time of heros. he had giant vertical fluos behind him across the stage and it was when he was using syths. though he played all the classics what stood out were heros and v2 schnider. live it was great. the crowd went wild when rebel rebel came on as its always been a aussie favorite.

well what I was trying to say is that he never really had a "satanic" image, so to speak. I think people are just confused about the gimmick that he's been selling to consumers for years.

Im not familiar with what you're talking about with Reznor. He was a pretty depressed, f*cked up guy. Maybe that explains it.

Finally, someone that sees it too. I am a big Tool fan and I've tried to show people his skills. They just go, "Who the **** is Danny Carey? I hate prog." He actually studied with a tabla master from India to try to get better control over his hanRAB. And his solo on Right in Two is absolutely amazing.

What I think is most interesting about David Bowie is his many-varied styles. He was never a static singer, and he was a great showman (never like Iggy Pop though...ugh). I think hes written and produced some of the best albums (Ziggy, Heroes, Alladin Sane...) and in them hes completely different.

He was probably thinking , hmmm i`ve done glam rock , soul , arabient electronica , pop , new wave. I wonder what I can do next?

I know , i`ll form a band inspired by Mike & The Mechanics.

I just think your conditions for talent are too high. I mean i'd say Matt Bellamy is a talented musician too, he knows how to play those keys!

I should never be berated for my Tin Machine fetish if you love The Eagles. I do like the track 'I Can't Tell You Why' but that is it.
