The Official David Bowie Thread

Low is a great album, but quite overrated by the hipster crowd.

I love David Bowie, he's one of my all time favorite musicians and I love many of his different musical perioRAB. From his early psychedelic/prog stuff (Space Oddity) to his heavy rock (Man Who Sold the World) to his glam which I consider to be the prime of his career (Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane) to his plastic soul (Young Americans) to his drugged out experimentation (Station to Station, Low, Heroes) and even his 80s pop (Lets Dance).

But as with any prolific artist, there have been failures. Tin Machine is one of the worst abominations against mankind.

Here's some incredible tracks on Hunky Dory, all these I consider classic:
The Belway Brothers
Quicksand
Eight Line Poem
Oh! You Pretty Things
Changes
Life On Mars

I believe this is the first David Bowie thread to grace rabroad. Well, how very shameful of all of you.

Since he's a chameleon, I decided to put this thread here.

Your Favorite songs?
Mine:
Space Oddity

One of my favorite entertainers/ artists, here is my top 5 beautiful bowie albums. Feel free to leave your top 5 if you like.

1. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
- Just a classic Rock album which creates a timeless pop fantasy.
2. Hunky Dory
- Some of the best Pop Rock ever recorded, just a great light sound alround
3. The Man who sold the World
- Great hardrock quality, best/darkest writting of any of Bowies albums
4. Alladin Sane
- Bowie takes his pop sound in a new faster/harder direction, and it works
5. Space Oddity
- A really good creative folk rock album. Showing of things to come.

Eh, bootlegs I'm not too bothered about right now, just maybe EP's and Singles that aren't on his albums, like the Jagger duet for instance, except well better, since I'm not getting that >

Yes.

Not many people realise he was Bob Dylan`s guitarist also after the Spiders From Mars split.

I used to know his neice too

Nice girl

Is "Heroes" and Low any good?

I have Aladdin Sane (my favourite), Ziggy, Hunky Dory and Man Who Sold The World. Not sure if there's anything left for me to get that I'm bound to like.

I've only just started to scratch the surface of Bowie (I only got a best of album), but I love when I'm hearing so far.

I agree the rock years aren't anywhere near as timelessly brilliant as the Berlin albums buuut I love 'the man who sold the world'. Twisted hard rock songs about mental illness and junk. I'm not sure how much input Bowie had on that album though, remeraber reading Visconti and Ronson did most of the work?

And how about him playing a 17-year-old version of himself in 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence'? That was just odd
