The Music Banter Essential Guide to Music

Well each person gets 5 tracks to choose and the highest 5 chosen make the grade.

All it is really, is a recommendation into the artists best work, or most representative work. So it's not designed to be 'this is their best album and their best 5 tracks'.

Ok, adjusted it to every two days for the time being. Added the new dates on the list, up until the end of October. See how it goes.

Also added a banner.

Will there be one sticky thread for the whole project or one thread per artist, or...?

Would it be easier to host the lists on a different web page?

Also, are the five tracks subject to change? Will there be occasional new voting (a new album is released, poor feedback for the selected tracks)?

Still, good idea; just a few questions.

Well, ideally the main list would be a sticky. If not then I could host it on a blog or on RYM.com.

Depending on how many votes we get, a nuraber would have to be sorted out, then the list goes up or it gets put on hold if not enough. It can then be brought back a month or two later, with the original votes still applying.

If an artist releases an album that is very well received then we can look at re-voting, but each case would be looked at seperately.

Thats an ill idea.

You could also have everyone name two artists that are from the same genre/sound the same that are also good, or forerunners, make it like the next step once youve got into them. For example, for a hypothetical "My Bloody Valentine" entry one could put,

The Jesus and Mary Chain
Slowdive

A band that was a huge influence, and a band influenced. Doesnt have to be that way though. I think it would be a good addition to help someone getting into the band seek out other similar, yet still great music.

Yeah I'm up for that with the similar artists, I think just 2 or 3 is enough.

I have edited the above rules to include that, let me know what you think.

Here is a starter list, any other suggestions are welcome via PM only please. Once we get some more and get the first voting under way, this list shall then be in the first post of this thread.
