The Mentalist (Merged)

Thanks for the episode info bubbsy :)

It did seem a bit strange that the characters weren't introduced, I wasn't sure if it's series (season) 1 or not - this week was the first time I had seen it advertised!

Simon Baker:p:o

I'm really impatient for Season 2 and for the boxed set of Season 1 which they keep putting back for some unknown reason. So frustrating! I've been getting my Simon fix by working my way through his films. Secret Men's Business arrived this morning. Simon got an AFI best actor nomination for that, so I'm really looking forward to seeing it. Particularly looking forward to seeing the nude shower scene:o

After watching the 2 documentaries I've completely gone off the actor who plays Rigsby. I always knew he was British and whenever I saw him on screen thought he did an excellent job - good accent, good acting and playing a decent character. However, after watching those 2 specials I cannot get out of my head how much he sounRAB like that camp BBC presenter on daytime TV - Fraser Digby (I think).

I really enjoyed it. I didn't think it was overdone like some other *ahemdollhouseahem* pilots have been and enjoyed the bits of character development that were done. I'm looking forward to seeing the story unfold.

I'm glad they have...do wonder how the new ownership taking place yesterday will affect some of these programmes. IIRC the item I saw did say that advertising revenues had been so good that it was a good time to sell. But I could be wrong.

So, the Psychic, I couldn't figure out if she is dead or alive? Is that intentional? At one point when she was telling the new boss that the body would be near water I did think she could end up being a suspect at this rate!

As you say, Flashforward is struggling and The Mentalist isn't.

The point of promotion is to increase viewing to a programme. If Flashforward is struggling it neeRAB support and therefore is promoted. The Mentalist is doing well and holding a steady audience - it is one of Fives highest rating shows. They could promote it and it might do even better, but surely it is better to use the limited promotion time on a programme that isn't getting the hoped for audience?

But FlashForward has had massive advertising from the very beginning, when viewing figures were unknown right through to when it was popular in the first few weeks - and beyond.

The Mentalist would have far better viewing figures if they gave it a fraction of the promotion they give FlashForward. Why flog a dead horse when you have a winner?

I think this has been pretty standard in most tv shows for many years. I can remember 40 years ago being annoyed at my mother who slept through everything, and just woke up for long enough to recognise someone and say 'thats the murderer'.

Last night's episode was great :)
This show is starting to become one of my favorite shows. I'm not surprised it did so well in America.
I'm enjoying it more than House on Sky1 TBH. However after 5 seasons the format for that show for me is becoming tired.
Roll on next Thursday...

I'm only watching this if the 1st episode enRAB with Alan Partridge driving away from him in a big panic and then getting blocked by a gate, then getting out and flailing his arms running across a field.

"You must be joking you big ******* you're a mentalist!"

:D

Very disappointed with the Finale, and the latter half of the season actually.

It was great at first, but Janes constant grinning really started to grate.

I don't think they can sustain the Red John thing that much longer, I was already thinking 'oh, another near miss'.

Personally, I feel it would have been better if they caught Red John, but then discovered he was part of something bigger, the show could keep going for years on something like that.

Twins got abducted, one was killed. The other was held by RedJohn. There was a blind Lady who was RedJohns lover and she led CBI to an accomplice who turned out to be the sheriff investigating the girls disappearence.
He and RedJohn had held her captive in an old house owned by the SheriRAB Dad, who just happened to be RedJohns cell mate way back when.
There was an exciting episode in a basement where RedJohn escaped and the sheriff was shot in the leg. He (sheriff) was then shot in an escape attempt - thus killing off Red Johns only known sighted associate.

Have I missed anything?

Hi - just found this thread!

Sorry to drag up the past but I've only just watched ep 5 of this season (got lots of TV to catch up!) - it's the episode where they are investigating the murder at the 'haunted' Beckworth mansion and are looking for hidden treasure in the house. In the scenes where Jane appears as the ghostly image and then explains it all, I saw a skull super-imposed on his face. Same thing when Rigsby tries out the ghost reflection bit, and again I think when the flashback sequence shows the killer making use of the system.

Did anyone else notice this effect, or was it just me. If you did see it, was it explained at all in the episode, or has it been explained by the cast or crew in any interviews?

Simon Baker just oozes class, he really has the role of Patrick Jane down to a tee. every scene he is in he steals. So much so that the other characters don't even matter at times. Although they are played by some fine actors especially Owain Yeoman!
