The Mentalist (Merged)

There's an interesting range of views on display here. I have seen the first seven, then gave up on it. Simon Baker is charming and watchable, but I didn't find enough to keep me watching in terms of the writing. It's not a patch on Life, in my opinion.

It's popular in the States because it is on CBS whose viewers tend to never change channels where the shows fit within a narrow range - Criminal MinRAB, NCIS, CSI and its variants are all on that network.

One trick I really thought they missed was to make the Robin Tunney role credible. The character is too young for the job she has. It would have so much better suited to an older actress - an American Helen Mirran - which would have made for a much more interesting dynamic than the romantic pap that it will no doubt end up being.

I have been loving this series, and it was a series finale that I wasn't expecting. I was expecting it to be more CSI like.

I like that Red John knows he neeRAB Patrick to be alive, to keep his fun going.

The sign was on the wall because that's the room that Red John killed his wife and child. He still sleeps in the room to act as added motivation to get Red John.

He didn't tell anyone about the poem because he wants to catch red john himself.

I'm glad the finale was different to the CSI style finale where you can almost guarantee that one of the main characters will be in a life threatening position

Yeah bit of a shame I thought. They should have re-introduced RJ earlier. It's like we were bimbling along happily then someone realised it was the last episode so decided to bring RJ back just for kicks.

Still - a good series. Here's looking forward to the next one.

I'll definitley be watching it, it looks promising, although it seems like a serious version of 'Psych' from the description! :)

Does anyone else find it strange that TV recently seems to suggest that the Police can't solve a crime without the help of a Psychic, Fake Psychic, Ex Cop with OCD, Medium, Maths Genius, Guy who hears thoughts etc etc

I say this but i watch all the shows that do it! ;)

I enjoyed tonight's episode. I fell for the cop thinking he was the one that did it at one point when he approached the girl undercover, so it was nice to be led off the track for a bit.

Yes everybody, keep the Ch5 ratings up - I couldn't bear to lose this show. Its doing very well at the moment - don't be disappointed by the overnights last week, they are only part of the picture. The Mentalist has very high timeshift viewers as so many people want to record the show so they can watch it over and over again. And every time you re-watch an episode, you get to love it more.

I thought Friday's ep was terrific fun - I love the way this show combines humour with the darker back-story. And I agree with others about how interesting Jane is. To have such a complex character as a lead is rare in prime-time telly. And played to perfection by Simon, of course.

I'm also loving the Cho/Rigsby double-act - some really funny moments.

Was it just me or did episode four have a big plot hole?
Shouldn't they have asked the nanny for her alibi? That would have revealed a contradiction that needed further investigation... The kid could have told them the truth, too.

Great ep tonight again. Last week's was a bit flimsy for me, but tonight's was back on form. Love Rigsby :D The backstories for each are interesting. Judging by the hypnosis, maybe something bad happened to Rigsby when he was younger & Van Pelt has a few secrets as well.

I didn't really notice about Jamie Murray last week.

I think Jane knew that Red John must have been in there because he had seen the woman not long before, so the poison must have just been put on her. I thought Jane would have ran around searching everywhere, odd that no-one moved to find him.
