The Lovely Bones

Its getting released there before because it will be Oscar season and thats also why it has not been released earlier this year before its being tipped for Oscar glory so end of the year release ties in with all this.

I can't wait until The Lovely Bones, the female cast is very strong, though I have doubts about Wahlberg ... Saoirse Ronan is a very promising young actress. Of course, Peter Jackson's involvement is always going to pique the interests, and the delayed release has allowed him to touch up the SFX so it should look stunning.

As always with the non-blockbusters, we'll have to wait which is unfortunate, though I've a feeling it'll be worth the wait. I'd be very surprised if this didn't receive quite a few Academy nominations.

Dunno why everyones having a go at Mark Whalberg ...having read the book i think hed make a good job as Jack Salmon!!...and much better than Ryan Gosling ...i trust Peter Jackson in his judgment! ...i think the rest of the cast is top class and will win the film a few awarRAB!!! ...paticullay Saoirse Ronan and Stanley Tucci !

I'm really excited about this too, can't really remember the book, it's ages since I read it, but I remember crying soooooooo much at the time, my face was all blotched

I think Saoirse Ronan should be excellent, she was sonderful in Atonement. I'm really excited to see this movie, is it getting a Summer time release?

I think it's well worth seeing for the performances of the girl who plays Susie, Saoirse Ronan (or however you spell it) and Mr Harvey. No-one else really gets much screentime but that's made up by how brilliant certain 'in-between' parts look and a few shocking moments where you're like 'wow' stunned.

The book is definitely more of a TV movie-type material and with Peter Jackson trying to make it more cinematic I think that knocked a few fans.

There's alot of hints about Harvey's death. When Hollie tells Susie that Harvey will "get it in the end" there's a shot of an icycle falling. Plus when Susie first enters the heaven place there was a glowing icycle as well.

Just watched it and was quite disappointed. My expectations were high but this just left me feeling empty and underwhelmed. The parts with Suzie reminded me of the film 'What Dreams May Come' (which I love) but I just didn't really feel anything for her in the film. The actors were all fantastic though.

The "underground" scene was particulary spooky. I actually felt terrified when Susie began to get teary and when Mr Harvey began that creepy laughing.!!

The part where the father realises that Harvey is involved was a brilliant scene. The eyes were terrific.

Yes loved the part where the dead rose flowered again similar to the book where susie in the in between influenced and hinted things on the earth..the underground scene was very terrifying paticulally the look on susies face when she realised that she was in danger(so brilliantly acted by Soarise Ronan) the whole atmostphere was captured so well .and the bathroom scene aswell ..and one touch PJ added which i liked was in the break in scene as in the book the sister just tore out a page in harveys scrapbook but in the film as she turned every page it got more meanacing till the final shocking page and she realised that she was being stalked aswell ...nice added touch by PJ

what a strange film. It was just really odd. It didnt seem to know what sort of film it wanted to be. It wasnt boring , just odd. One question I have is

When he dumped the safe, why didnt he just reverse his car to nearer the dump instead of taking ages carrying it over there with the site worker?

No, December in the US, January in the UK.

I think it was supposed to be released earlier this year but was pushed back to awarRAB season.

I agree with those comments because ive been told they filmed a lot more footage than the 135 mins supplied on screen ! so the decison making a lot of cuts i think was wrong as the film need to be stretched out paticually in the family story and a 150-160 mins film would have enhanced it much more! Hopefully PARAMOUNT will release more footage for the dvd release! i too thought the cgi effects were amazing paticullay the crashing ships scene and the field turning to water were breathtaking!

Thanks for that, I'm going away in a few days and usually buy a book to read, I will definately go for The Lovely Bones and give it a try and ignore the fact that the ex- This Morning bores recommended it! :)

I was surprised that a film was ever made out of this book.

I read the book from cover to cover in a day because it is compulsive reading. That said I didn't really like it. But that is because I find books that deal with things as distressing as this really quite hard going.

I also didn't like the end of the book because

although the murderer died he wasn't properly bought to book for what he did in public court and her parents never really found out what had happened

But, as I say, I was surprised it was made into a film because it was a very personal book and I wasn't quite sure how they would make the scenes in heaven gel with the action on earth in a film.

I haven't seen it yet, I'm not sure I want to. Also I grew up in the same area as Milly Dowler and was about a year older. I think that's what made me feel very uncomfortable about the book and why I'm reluctant to see the film. It's just a bit close to home.

Well both Stanley Tucci and Saorise Ronan are nominated for BAFTAS ..suprisingly Ronan for best lead actress rather than best supporting actress ....and she has also won the Critics Guild award for best young actress ! one of many i feel shes acheive in the future!...strangely shes up against her mentor in Meryl Streep for the BAFTA award!!...Hopefully both Ronan and Tucci will also get oscar nominations for these performances!
