The Lovely Bones

They could think it might make for a good Valentine's day type movie, since there is a romance plot involved.

Other than that, I really don't know. Possibly they fear it will bomb, since there's been a lot of negative reviews after the initial anticipation?

Just finished the book at the weekend & i bawled & bawled. I read the interview with peter jackson about this movie & he did say there will be some changes & that people shouldn't expect it to be exactly like the book.

I don't take that to be bad news as after reading the book the ending feels quite rushed & jarred so i have a feeling they may flesh the latter half out more.

I watched the film last night..i couldnt get into the book when i tried to read it ..and sadly the film wasnt a lot better.

Having said that tho my OH who loved the book also loved the film.

I loved this when I saw it at the Cinema a few months back with the girlfriend. All the cinema was on the edge of their seats at times.

Stanley Tucci is an amazing actor, i've loved him in everything he's been in, he's such an underated actor. (As far as I know he's underated anyways lol).

Apparantly all these scenes are on the cutting room floor. 3 hours in total. All cut so he could show off special effects for the 'in-between' scenes  I could have done without any special effects to be honest. This should have been solely a character driven film.

Edit - sorry, just read your earlier post where you already mentioned the editing.

Watched it this morning and absolutely loved it. You should'nt realy compare it to the book and take the movie on its own merits. Its visually stunning and emotionally heartbreaking.

Its an oscar winner for me for sure.

Does anyone know if the book addresses :

Why the killer wasn't caught? We saw the sister hand over the book then the next scene had the police swarming over his house but that was it. I didn't like the way this wasn't resolved.

I wish PJ showed more of the Ruth charactor in the film as she was an important part of the heaven/earth link for susie, paticullay in the book!

The reviews on u tube are 95% positive! these are from ordinary filmgoers ,most of the negative reviews are from the film critics ,it annoys me when people wont see a film because of bad reviews as most of the time when a film is badly reviewed its usually pretty good! Best to make up ones own mind !

I know of at least one change and I can understand it. No adaptation has ever been entirely faithful so I always go in prepared. As long as the movie is made with caring hanRAB the changes alone aren't enough to ruin the film. There are some films where I thought the changes actually worked. Not everything from books can translate so well onto screen.

I like good special effects, but NOT when storytelling and characterisation are sacrified to make way for them. The Lovely Bones is the perfect example of how special effects can be abused and aren't always a good thing. Yes, there were some gorgeous images on screen that were really lovely to see, but I need story and proper character development too.

i loved the book & i loved the movie.

how about letting people make up their own minRAB instead of shouting about how shit it is (in your opinion)

that type or arrogance really gets on my tits
