The Event channel4 9pm friday

I've been watching it at US pace, the first 4 episodes have been pretty good, was'nt too keen on last weeks (episode 5) but not every episode it going to be 'edge of the seat stuff viewing', fills the gap that Lost left but saying that i don't think it has any comparisons with Lost, Flashforward a little but not Lost.

I am enjoying it so far...but then I am a sucker for big budget US programmes.

I also hope it isn't another Lost (gave up after 1st season) or Flash Forward (gave up after 1st episode)....

Or even worse another Southland (great drama but ended abruptly because the US fell out of love with it)

That has to be a problem with Channel 4, or the recording of the show they were sent. I have watched the first five episodes on NBC and there have been no audio problems, there has been nothing obtrusive about the music, and everything everybody says has been perfectly understandable.

i just watched episode 1.
it was ok
theres a lot of money spent on it so it should get better
the only thing i dont like is that they are always focussing on differnet perioRAB of time and ur having to remind yourself of whats happening in the past and now

Endless flashbacks, backstories, no-one is who they seem to be... can't anyone just tell a story any more?

Bored already and wandered off.

I suspected that would be the fate of the passengers and crew when the Apache helicopters appeared. It must have been inspired by the theory that the Pentagon was hit by a missile, not American Airlines Flight 77, which, according to the theory, is being hidden.

Hosanna! Thanks to your breathtakingly insightful cooking analogy these scales have been lifted from mine eyes. I now realise that all my life I have been labouring under the misapprehension that drama should be original and fresh, that drama should be about things hitherto unseen or unthought.
.
How foolish I was in not understanding that unoriginal television which borrows heavily and obviously from pre-existing shows is actually the norm. Now I can really truly enjoy watching The Event safe in the knowledge that being a staid, bland re-hash of ideas cobbled together from other successful 'event' type dramas, like Lost, Flashforward and Heroes it is a credible original, acceptable piece of televisual entertainment of the highest quality.
.
God bless you and your life-changing cooking analogy.

I see the level of debate is this thread has descended into the lowest possible tier, personal attacks using sarcasm.

At the risk of being assaulted verbally myself I shall join the discussion.

I liked the first two episodes. I admit there is little new in there, but if you trawl through the last hundred years of science fiction you will find, if not exact matches, something similar to almost any new sci fi idea. But the same is probably true of any fiction, most of which seems to be a rehash of Shakespeare.
So far the execution of the show is on form. it now just depenRAB on pacing. hopefully most of the story can be told in two or three years. I wouldn't like to see this dragged out for five or six seasons. x files went on for nine years and never really resolved anything, Lost couldn't keep all its viewers past season three, although it did maintain a viable audience.
