The Event channel4 9pm friday

I'm really getting into it - seems very good, but at the moment the adverts are literally every 10 minutes :mad::mad: I'm going to turn it off if they keep this up.

There are only a certain number of musical notes on a piano, but by arranging them in many different ways, you get new and fresh tunes.

I guess it's the same for drama?

Maybe the bad dramas were summed up by Eric Morcombe (Morcombe and Wise) when he said, "I'm playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order!"

I'm watching it at US Pace and it does get interesting. There are rumours about it being cancelled in America and it really doesn't need a second season. 8 Episodes is enough i think and the good thing is they are still filming the first season so if they do get told it wont be getting renewed at least they can tie it all up by the 8th episode.

I really liked this. Good start, fast moving, great pacing. Lots of twists and turns already. Lead guy seems really likeable. Think I might enjoy this. They haven't hung around in answering questions either. Not sure how far they can stretch the concept but it's a promising start.

I find it quite entertaining in as much as I want to find out what The Event (ie the subject of the title) is all about...

I saw it advertised when I was in the USA in September and have *cough* downloaded and watched the first 4 episodes...

Although it does tend to leap around timelines-wise a bit too much in the first couple of episodes there are enough questions being asked to keep me coming back for more...

Basically the story is...

There is a new President, he discovers that the CIA have been covering up the fact that there are 97 people, of 'unknown' origin, who have been held captive in a facility in Alaska for 66 years having been in a 'plane'? that crashed in 1944... And they don't age so are as young as they were when they were captured. But there are more than 97 as in the 1944 crash some of them got away and have since merged into society. The President decides that the general public neeRAB to know about the 97 and, along with the leader of the 97, is going to hold a press conference to tell the world about them... But, as they are about to announce to the world they come under attack from a passenger plane flying on a collision course towarrRAB them... I'll leave what happens for you to find out but, suffice to say, there seems to be involvement from the CIA, the NSA and possibly an insider in the Whitehouse that doesn't want the info about the 97 released... And in the meantime those of the original crashed ''others'' that weren't captured start making steps to publise themselves to the world anyway... Its cross... double-cross, and triple-cross... And what 'The Event' is that everything is alluding to has yet to be revealed...

Well *I* like it!!

I liked it, but usually these things are best at the start when you only learn things piece by tiny piece. We'll see if it can hold our interest once we know more stuff.

Not sure bout it. Dont want to watch 24 episodes and then say .....duh!! what???
Remember when the US used to make best sellers like Rich man Poor man and Roots, Centenial.

I understand and appreciate your point, srhRAB; I just think that other sf shows have either:
a. been a bit more subtle in their use of old ideas/stories
or
b. taken an old idea/story and looked at it from a fresh new angle.
IMO The Event did neither.
