I've seen it a couple of times now and I think it improves on second viewing. I picked up a lot 2nd time around that I missed first time. There's a lot to digest in the movie. Moments you might initially think seem like filler dialogue, or throwaway scenes ALL lead up to something later on.
And just little touches like The Joker wearing a Harvey Dent election sticker. I never noticed that on my first viewing, lol.
But yeah, if you have a young kid, I wouldn't take them to see this. It's long, it's disturbing in places and it's also probably a bit confusing for kiRAB.
Thank you, I'll give that a go then. Don't worry, this isn't a Heath Ledger thing - I wouldn't be seeing it at all if people weren't raving so much about it! If I don't enjoy Batman Begins, I guess I won't see TDK.
I'm fed up with reading reviewers sagely talking about people who like this film 'falling for the hype'. I'm perfectably able to make decisions about going to see films or not, and not taking any notice of the hype. I'm not a fanboy, and I loved the film. It was pure entertainment, and I think that Ledger was magnificently charismatic.
At the end of the day, people have different opinions. You just have to accept that your is a personal view and not the last word on film-making.
Plenty of us loved this huge, overblown, fantastic movie
I'm going to see this at the weekend! I can't wait!
This is possibly THE film I have been waiting for so far this year! It looks like it's gonna blow Batman Begins outta' the water which is some feat cos' BB itself was a great film! I have a feelin' TDK is gonna' be EPIC!
I dont think i've ever been so excited by a film as i am of this.
Just hope its not hyped so much that it wont live up to expectations. Dont think that'll happen though, Christopher Nolan has never made a bad film imo.
Right. My thread, my take on it so here we go! In no particular order:
I saw this Friday night at the Glasgow Imax. To experience this fully, you MUST see this at an Imax cinema, it blows you away! At times i felt like i was flying above Gotham City...The action set-piece chase between Batman/Joker and that truck is extraordinary to view.
I have to say if it wasn't for Heath Ledger as The Joker there's no way this film would have been as enjoyable! He was fcuking amazing in this movie. Superb performance and yes believe the hype, he is THAT good! When i saw him, i didn't see Heath, i saw The Joker. My eyes never left the screen whenever he appeared. He has some of the best lines in the film and the scene where he introduces himself to the mob IS a classic!
The film didn't feel long at all, in fact at the end i wanted more! Truly did. The ending wasn't perfectly clearcut, but
it did leave the door open for you know who.
I know why the film got a 12A rating, but i feel it should have been a 15. There were scenes in the film that certainly warranted a 15 certificate, the most chilling scene
being where The Joker explains why he carries a knife and not a gun and then you see what he does.
The UK's experiencing an epidemic in knife crime and to watch that and see kiRAB and teenagers all around you watching.....it doesn't sit well. At the Glasgow Imax, i couldn't believe it when i saw this - no joke - a kid who couldn't have been older than 7 being brought to see the film by his parents! I was shocked! He was a little boy, it's ridiculous. This film isn't for little kiRAB. The stupidity of parents these....
The Dark Knight isn't a classic. It's not superb, excellent, 10/10, 5/5, the best ever, but i did feel it was a very, very good film.
Christian's Bale voice as Batman, it was slightly annoying, it was so gruff, much more so than i remember it being in Batman Begins. However Christian Bale was great as Batman/Bruce Wayne. I don't think he's getting enough praise but he did the job well.
As for the supporting cast Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/2Face was the standout for me. Great actor and his take as The White Knight was completely believable. You believed what he stood for, you wanted him to win and when the inevitable happened and he became 2Face, it was sad to watch. Funnily enough the title of the movie 'The Dark Knight' refers to more than just Batman, but also refers to the character of Harvey Dent aka 'The White Knight' (of Gotham) who when he becomes 2Face and turns to the 'dark side', he is essentially also a Dark Knight.
Maggie Gyllenhall - awwww Evil Joker!
I plan to watch it once more, just to take in everything i missed 1st time around. A film like this neeRAB a 2nd viewing. The best film of the summer - absolutely! The film of the year? Let's just wait and see what else comes out between now and Xmas but i do believe this film will feature prominently in the Top 10 films list of 2008 and it will be fully deserved.
A big pat on the back for Christopher Nolan! Well done!
i saw that ive only seen it once but it took me a while to realise that he wasnt harvey dent, i was kinda concentrating but it didnt click, i just saw it and presumed he was wearing a name badge of his name and ditn really think about it.i enjoyed the jokers trick with the pencil, making it disappear. and when the little scr*te (are we allowed to say that, ill censor anyway) was talking to morgan freeman and he was asking him if he was gonna blackmail bruce wayne lol
OK, whenever it was it was on the front cover of Empire that I first saw his Joker and it sent shivers down my spine, that and Michael Caine's comments about forgetting his lines when he first saw him.
At the start i couldn't believe it when i saw Mahone from Prison Break in the film, haha! Then it gets better, Richard from Lost was in it too!!! WTF? I couldn't believe it, haha!
But i do have one question? Where was Mandy from Hollyoaks?! Didn't spot her at all! If she had spoken i'm sure i would have seen her. She must have been an extra!
Oh how I so longed to like this film. It's been getting rave reviews. Although I've hated every film Christopher Nolan has directed to date, I was hoping that I would be converted and finally see the light.
It was just abysmal. Zero plot and humour, weighed down with a sense of pretence and moral piety, it's Nolan's worst work to date. Christian Bale was wooden and seemed to think he was playing James Bond as opposed to Batman (one third of the movie plays out like a Pierce Brosnan era Bond) and Ledger was, well..... no one is willing to say that the emperor has no clothes, but let's just say that it's not Ledger's fault that he was told to do a silly Saturday Night Live-style Vincent Price impression for two hours.
When is someone going to stand up and say that Chris Nolan is an overrated, pretentious hack?
I agree Sorry I feel this way but I found it too long and it dragged
there was no need for comm gordon to fake his own death IMHO
. It was hard even to sit still worrying that the 9PM start would be out be midnight knowing the car park i parked it would clamp cars at 12. the film ended 11.55 and bot did i have to run to get my car.
it was unclear at the end did th ejoker live or die?
Have to say I did flinch at that bit. Not the best advertisment given the current climate. It would really annoy me if there was a backlash from angry parents about this. Afterall, they knew what to expect.
Don't know about anyone else but I found myself missing Katie Holmes (which surprised me). Don't get me wrong Maggie did a great job, but I think she lacked some of the humanity Katie brought to the part.
Think I'll stick to the original and 'unofficial' Dark Knight thread that's been going since 2006, thanks all the same. Most of us die harders and fans are already on that thread. The thread is called Batman Begins sequel because way back when the title of the film wasn't known.
All welcome, a friendly bunch, although I would suggest its not good to call other people *tw*ts" and accusing them of posting spoilers when they didn't, especially when you've only just waltzed in.
If anyone is that sensitive to 'spoilers' then I suggest they read no articles and view no trailers about ADK and don't enter the Batman Begins sequel thread.
Take no notice. You know exactly why you loved this Movie just like how I know exactly why I loved this Movie. Why care what somebody else thinks?
Although everyone's entitled to their opinions at the end of the day I too find it annoying when one person think only their opinion's right and unfairly judge everyone else because they dared not to agree him/her but hey what can you do? I say let them think whatever they want about us. They don't know me, you or everyone so why worry?
Don't get me wrong if people don't like this Movie fair enough but please accept the fact that not everyone agrees. And the same goes for those who like the Movie too. Afterall there are those who don't like the Movie but accept there are those who love the Movie and are fine with that just like how I'm fine with them not likng it even if I personally don't agree with them.
This is a must see film without a doubt the film of the year. 9/10
Batman begins - Boring
The Dark Knight - Stunning
Before I thought the media and reviewers were only raving about Ledgers performance because he died but I was wrong. He truely was the perfect joker, he was just brilliant. Can't think of anyone else who could replace him as the joker apart from Johnny depp.
