The Cleveland Show - "Da Doggone Daddy-Daughter Dinner Dance" - Talkback [10/4]

The show is kind of similar to Family Guy and yet different. There are similarities in the joke-telling and the ages of the different family members is about the same. However, the show is different in that it has the blended family aspect. It's kind of like Family Guy merged with The Brady Bunch or Step by Step. Also, there's the big difference in the main characters. While Family Guy's Peter is a big, frequently selfish, idiot who's off in his own world with often dangerous results, Cleveland is just a nice guy trying to make a somewhat difficult situation work.

Yes! Also I don't know if anyone else got this vibe or not but when I saw Donna she seems like a character people can relate to. Cleveland Jr. may be fat now but he doesn't act anything like Chris. Roberta isn't an "ugly" walking doormat like Meg and Rollo isn't like Stewie and he has a cool style. Also the bear =/= Brian. Brian is atheist liberal while the bear is Christian.

Havent you already posted that numerous times already? In my opinion this was a good episode, although i did not like the oscar cutaway. Maybe, I'm not very critical, I mean I loved Sit down Shut up from the begining while everyone else hated it. Also, near the end Cleveland sort of reminded me of Hank from king of the Hill, during the scene he gets furious at Cleveland Jr. for being the bathroom door.

American Dad is a sinking ship. It's the lowest rated show on the Animation Domination block.

I don't get why so many people are saying this was funnier than last week's. Last week's episode was hilarious. By contrast, this episode only had a few laughs.

It's very simple really. It made most of us laugh and it didn't make other people laugh. People have different tastes in comedy or certain things may not tickle the funny bone.

Much Much better than the pilot. The pilot felt like FG, and this episode felt like it's own individual show even with the cutaways.

The best part: the explanation about the dog death.:p

I been watching it in Hulu since I don't have FOX anymore. (Here in PR is cable..) The first half was bad, but later it improved a lot. it still needs more time to find it's own stand. but it's much better than the pilot.

I think the Cleveland show is going to go the way of Frank's place...
Only this time, justifiably...
Seriously, I do appreciate the lower number of cutaway segments but the jokes just fell completely flat...
Maybe it'll get a little less awkward as it progresses.

In agreement here. Episode 2 was better than the pilot by a little bit, and that's if you don't count the Family Guy transition opening. The Cleveland Show is charming, but does lack that wow factor that gets people talking like Family Guy and American Dad do. It's way too early to tell if that's good in the long run quality- or viewership-wise. But it is something to keep in mind.

As for this episode, the natural progression from the pilot happened here... which is Cleveland endearing himself to Rollo and Roberta. And it works, after a huge unexpected bump in killing the family dog accidentally. Roberta proved to be the harder sell, as seen by Cleveland's attempts. By the way... the Cleveland Ghost Rider bit was the funniest scene in the entire episode. Mostly for the dance moves, but funny's funny. In the end... I guess I should've seen Cleveland's first instinct being him asking Roberta to marry him before asking her to dance. That line pretty much wrote itself... but hey, it brought them together at last.

Also... wasn't sure on the bear last week, but this week... the calm voice of reason at least enhances his likability. So that's something.

Season's still young, guys... two okay episodes is nothing to get uppity over.
