The Cleveland Show - "Da Doggone Daddy-Daughter Dinner Dance" - Talkback [10/4]

I love it when Cleveland is explaining the dog death to the family. I do wish the cutaways will eventually stop... being so much.
Aside from the later cutaways the episode is really good so far.

It doesn't feel like a Family Guy clone if you ask me... aside from the later cutaways.

It's family guy part 2 sprinkled with a VERY light coating of American Dad.

There's nothing new that it offers besides the lead character is black and roles are switched around or done with a small or insignificant twist.

:sigh: This is still bad. So far I laughed at the horny toaster and the Oscar acceptance, but everything else has me staring blank at the screen or nodding my head in disgust (that whole scene with Cleveland Jr. as "the bathroom door" as .... ugh).

Am I the only who doesn't like any of the kids?

Second dog died. Didn't expect that. Seriously.
Well I thought he was going to get run over when Cleveland threw the stick. The way the dog died surprised me.

Well, I'm personally done with The Cleveland Show. I gave it 2 weeks and I still don't think any more of it, so I'll be ignoring it from now on. This week's episode was only slightly better than last week's. If Seth MacFarlane's name weren't attached to this series, FOX wouldn't have aired this at all. FOX's Animation Domination has gone to pot now that the entire lineup consists of 3 Seth MacFarlane shows and The Simpsons.

Did I just watch dogs get thrashed and shot? :ack:

And these cutaways continue to be unfunny. Why did they think adding these would be a good idea?

Just saw it again. Loved it. :anime:
I just noticed something Cleveland Jr. said about his day at school.
"It was worse than an ABC comedy." And he has a point.

I'm only saying you haven't gave the show a decent watch Blackstar's talking about I gave it two weeks the show doesn't play 24/7 how are you already forming an opinion on a show that's only played 2 episodes. I didn't mean to be sarcastic if it came out that way I just want people to give it more of a chance instead of bashing it by watching it and saying not funny I give up like it's been on for so long.

Sigh at least American Dad tries to be different from Family Guy, the Cleveland show justs says "Screw it" and is just Family guy with a black cast.

The pilot episode had some cutaways, but after that they pretty much completely removed any leftover Family Guy elements. Understandable, since the show was originally going to be Seth's "replacement" for FG. Of course, Cleveland is part of the FG universe, so I don't expect them to make as much of a clean break from FG's style.

But it wouldn't hurt. I don't know if the show needs to stop doing cutaways or if it just needs to stick to better ones, but either way, the ones we've been getting are quite dreadful. Without the context of Peter's narrative, they don't seem to make sense. I don't "feel" Cleveland making these references.

This episode was better than last week's, but no more than I expected. It still needs a lot of work.

Well, I agree to an extent that you should give something a fair chance before giving up on it or proclaiming it sucks without having seen more than one or two episodes (especially if the latter episodes are a big improvement). That's a pet peeve of mine as well.

However, with The Cleveland Show in particular, two things were working against it right out of the gate:
1) It's back-to-back with two other Seth shows. So it really needs to differentiate itself, even moreso than if it were done by somebody else and sported a different art style.
2) It's a spin-off. Those are generally looked down upon by viewers. By contrast, American Dad was a completely original creation.

When you combine those two things with what some people feel are unfunny scripts, bland characters, and similarities in joke-telling to a show already established (Family Guy), it's only natural to not want to stick with it.
