Terminator: Salvation - surprised!

Been to see T:S this afternoon and so wanted to like it. It was OK but I was left with a feeling of...."meh" about the whole movie.

For all the reasons that Dave listed in post #131 it just felt like it tried hard but did not quite hit the spot. The
heart surgery to go
solution at the end seemed rather silly but then in a film series based around time travelling cyborgs maybe I am being tad picky.

Mind you always nice to Michael Ironside chewing on the sceanary :)

That's a bit harsh! It's the same film, but with a few extra little bits in it. I prefer the extended version myself, and am looking forward to getting it on blu-ray when it's released in a couple of months.

It's alright. The problem is that it was never going to be the film I wanted it to be (which would basically be Cameron back at the helm), so I have to settle for this instead.

Just one question though, how exactly does skynet know Kyle Reece is John's (future) father at this point?

I saw it last night, & to my surprise I quite enjoyed it. Although I don't think it's on a par with T1 & T2.

How did Skynet know of Kyle? How did it know machines had previously failed to kill John? Why was it so keen to kill John?

Only marginally better that the original ending where:

John Connor dies and Marcus takes his face to continue the fight!!

I think MSG was replaced by a robot years ago - only that would explain a film that looks like it was put together by a machine.

i think i'll go and see it, if only out of curiosity. i think bale's ill-judged tirade that we all heard earlier in the year might cast a shadow over this movie, and possibly he won't endear himself to critics who might otherwise have been a bit kinder.

it irked me too. i mean who thought of making the design for the t-600's like clomping great giants with machine guns for arms?

they were always supposed to be infiltration units, the only difference from the t-800 being that their skin disguise was rubber and not flesh

That bit you bolded was ment to be the orignal ending. But it got leaked on youtube and the backlash was so big that they had to change the ending and it shows badly.

Or i think John died and a Terminator used his skin on his metal frame and become John Conner.

The fact it had a huge budget but what's on screen looks like the sort of low rent guff the Sci-Fi Channel knocks out.

Or the liberties taken with Cameron's envisaged plot line.

But mainly Kristanna Loken's inflatable breasts.

I think critics don't always see what public see in a film - that's why "critically acclaimed" films usually don't do well at the box office - they all hated Angles & Demons & Wolverine yet they've both done ok

i thought bale did a good job,he wasnt really the main character surprisingly but i thought he did well and looked the part

the films done well and im sure we will see more...and im glad, i wanna see how the war is won!

I wondered that too. Saw it last night as well, and think it's okay. I suppose the fact that it's set after judgement day means this is bound to be the case, but it just didn't feel like a terminator film. I think they could have had John Connor lighten up a bit, I know that things are a bit gloomy, but if they'd made him share a few character traits with the John in T2 it might have felt like there was a bit of continuity there.

Think it would have been better if it'd just focused on Marcus, Kyle and that Blair woman (who should have had a bigger part)

Haha yeah, I've seen that - looks kind of cool, but a tad expensive!

I know about the current blu-ray, but it's a bare-bones effort, which is why I've never bought it. I had a feeling it was only a matter of time till they did a proper release, which I think has the normal and extended versions. Cool! This is the one I'll be getting:- http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/4-/9151532/Terminator-2-Skynet-Edition-Steel-Tin/Product.html

I read somewhere else that T1 is getting a full restoration at the moment and will be released at some point. Also, I think a blu-ray of T3 is coming out in May. Terminator-tastic!

Dave

Ahhh, makes more sense. I thought you were referring to Terminator Salvation!

Glad they changed it, then. Killing off John Connor would have completely undermined the whole point of the three prior films. I'm not surprised they were hit with a big backlash due to that.

Saw this today and didn't really like it, the action scenes were good and the guy who was playing Marcus was pretty decent but I felt the whole film was kind of disjointed and at times I was dis-interested in it, I probably won't be seeing this again for a long while.

I really don't like Bale and feel he's incredibly overrated (As others on this board also seem to believe)

Just saw this last night. I was very excited but I have to say it was not very good plot wise. It's just another mindless action film which is cool for the summer but I was expecting more than that.

Bale is actually pretty forgettable and the material he had to work with is probably to blame. He's freaking John Connor but you wouldn't have known that based on the scenes he got. He could have been just another regular guy in the background.
Sam Worthington on the other hand completely stole every scene he was in! Outstanding performance and the one great character in the film.

So yeah, don't go in with too high expectations and enjoy it for what it is :D
