Terminator: Salvation - surprised!

Can't say as I'm going to get excited about a trailer - after all, it's sole purpose is to sell the movie, so if it's edited correctly with some of the film's best action sequences then it should look good.

However, going from this clip:

It looks dire! Clunky dialogue, cack acting, poor direction. Etc.

Oh, and Roger Ebert's review:

Love it!

Oh yes, and a lousy 32% on rottentomatoes.com -

I like Christian Bale as an actor, but in no way whatsoever should he have been cast as John Connor. He doesn't suit that role.

And if we're being honest nobody will ever be able to get the feel of the films right apart from Cameron, the third one was alright but doesn't match up to the first 2.

i enjoyed it, i also dreaded it after negative reviews but i found it enjoyable

far different tot he first 3, it was kinda like black hawk down but with robots! i liked the fact it was a war film,as the first 3 set up the actual war and resistance so well

as for connor not trusting marcus, you can never let your guard down, he knows what skynet are creating terminaters to eventually kill him after all

great special effects too, cant wait for 5!

p.s rewatched t3 on saturday and still say its a very enjoyable film, i think the special effects were great personally.

id say it goes:

t1-9/10
t2/10/10
t3-7/10
t4-8/10

Regardless of the film's quality, I find it completely baffling that there's only one terrible cam job of this on the piracy scene. It's been out long enough to expect a decent telesync by now. The last time I was this miffed was when Ghost Town didn't get pirated whatsoever until the DVDRip came out shortly before retail release.

Imagine if Bale had spoke using his Batman voice all the way through 'The Dark Knight', that's how he is in 'Terminator Salvation'...

I know the character of John Connor is supposed to feel oppressed after a nuclear war, but it would have been nice if he'd had even a faint glimmer that he was the same character from T2, if only for continuities sake. Bale's version of Connor could have been any old resistance fighter, he's nothing like the previous incarnations, and in my opinion this is probably why he's getting criticised so savagely. Bale IS a good actor, it's just that his performance in TS seems lazy and derivative. I would say blame the writer, but apparently Bale is the actual reason for the Connor character being the way he is in TS, he wouldn't sign up until he was happy with the character...

Also, a slight nit pick about the film:

Why didn't the T-800 melt when the molten metal was poured on it? In T2 the T-800 was lowered into the metal and it was destroyed almost instantly!

Don't hold your breath - I believe it has to have been a more massive a hit to get the green light for more - I think the series will pass away quietly now. If they do more though, expect more cheesy/cut down special effects.

Why have RAB put that story on the front page? Its the most unworthy news piece ever. So critics didnt all love it? Big deal!

Who on earth actually cares what critics have to say? I judge a film when I watch it. I really have no respect for film critics at all, its possibly the easiest job on the face of the planet. I mean litterally, is there an easier and better job to have?

I really bloody hate film critics....as you can probably tell :D

Terminator looks awesome.

This series should have ended with Terminator 2. All the subsequent films have just succeeded in is dragging the franchise down.

Just got back from seeing it.

Thought it was a great film, probably on par with T3 for me (I liked T3, and think the backlash the film gets these days is just from geeky fanboys. T3 got good reviews upon its initial release...most seem to forget that) but still not up to the standard of T1 and T2. I really didn't like Christian Bale in this though, his "acting" was just laughable in most scenes, mainly due to his stupidly gruff 'Batman' voice that made his dialogue almost unfathomable. Sam Worthington was excellent though, and the Arnie cameo, while brief, was a stand out moment. The action scenes were really good too, even though it seems ripped off of Transformers, particularly the harvester bit and the Terminacycles bit. I think McG is kidding himself if he can't see how similar it seems in places...

Overall i'd probably say a high 8/10, nearly a 9. That's coming from a Terminator fan.
