Superchannel Pricing?

Yes, ltldevl,

The price point for the new pay-tv service SuperChannel has yet to be announced for any provider.

the channels Ex Agent EV is referring to are the Superstations (WSBK, WPIX, KTLA ect..) which are included with TMN/MC or an add-on to either Family or S

From what I hear, Bell will have it long before any of the other carriers which will force them to have pricing before the others. Bell has mentioned that they are the first carrier to have the channels in Canada so I don't think they are waiting for other carriers. Why set a price when they don't have any feedback from the channels as of yet? They have an entire month of free preview to determine feedback and then set a price.

Should be interesting to see what they mean by a free preview......will it be the actual programing or selected shows. It also looks like that only one HD channel will be available and only to current HD subscribers.

It looks like Bell is going to try and bundle Super Channel with Mpix in the east and Encore in the west, but compared to TMN or Movie Central, no crazy person in the world would still choose that.

Updated movie packages are here: http://www.bell.ca/shopping/portlets/personal/television/AIO/details/premium_movies_en.html

here is a cut and paste from an email I sent to allardcom regarding superchannel. this was on oct 31

--------------------------------------------------------------

I have been waiting for your channel to activate.
I see that Nov 2 is the launch date.

I see the standard definition channels on expressvu 326-329. with 329 showing some episodes of passions and a lot of trailers or promos. your web site indicates that when these channels go live then I must subcribe as of nov 2. nice. except no one knows the price.

but I dont see any guide info or scheduling info on either your web site or on expressvu

I dont see any channels reserved for HD being listed on the expressvu guide ( 843 and 844)

when I phoned them they couldnt tell me anything regarding the guide, the price, the launch of HD.

I want to know the price before I consider subscribing and I want HD.

as I am a fan of passions -- I want to know if you are going to start off with the new season episode 1 as they did on Directv. if I miss it ( I will be away on Nov 2-3 ) will it be repreated. is passions going to be shown on the HD channels?

I appreciate how forthcoming your company and expressvu have been. I get the sense this like a national secret. I like the way that consumers are fully informed.

hey folks its just TV

thanks
--------------------------------------------------
I went to bell today to see what was going on.
they created a superchannel theme pack which includes the superstations that Im paying for in the other movie theme pack

the superchannel theme pack is 16.95/mo

here is a cut and paste from an email I just sent to allardcom today
----------------------------------------------------------------
thank you for responding to my previous email - which Im still waiting for - which I figure I wont get and probably wont get a reply to this email.

I figured out what expressvu has done now.
they created an new theme pack around your channels, of which most of them I pay for in another theme pack

the price obviously for your channels seems to be $16.95

thats too expensive for me since all I wanted was to watch the passions soap opera

I am removing your channels both sd and hd from my expressvu guide even though there are some free previews.

so since I dont exist to you -- you dont exist to me

end of story

Well, they're not asking you to pay $16.95/month to watch Passions, it's simply one of the series they offer. TMN didn't let you purchase the Sopranos without their full package either.

I think Agent's reply just goes to show what problems that we the Customers might run into when adding the Super Channels.

If they do not hear you correctly, as Agent misread in this thread, you will end up with the wrong channels being added to your account and as I understand the rules, it could be that the wrong channels might not be removed for 30 days.

If calling to add Super Channel, make sure the CSR is aware of exactly what you want.....

Actually, $16/mo is the price for a minimum subscription. If you subscribe to 5 or more theme packs they are asking $13/mo for the Super Channel package that includes the US superstations.

On TMN/MC and Super

I was kinda thinking the same thing...they are only advertising a few movies.... are they just going to repeat the same movies for a month? hahaha That would be really sad!

But it's Bell that bundles them together, not TMN/MC. So having them all together would be Bell's doing and not a competition issue I don't think.

Well, it's been about 2 days of free preview. You would think that the Super Channel guys would want to put out their best impression during the "launch", especially during prime-time hours. But there hasn't been a single movie or show on these channels (even the red ones) that I would even bother to watch.

IMHO, a shameful waste of bandwidth so far.

If BEV or one of the other providers wants to bundle TMN/MPIX/Super Channel or MC/Super Channel thats up to BEV or the other providers. Keep in mind that if they do this Super Channel won't loose any money as they have a set price per sub as do TMN & MC. Its BEV and the other providers that wil take a less of "pie" as it where, by bundling them, but at the same time there taking a chance of getting more subs for both services resulting in more profit in the long run.

supergenius,

According to expressvu's website, there is some sort of discount for TMN/MC subscribers. Also Super Channel subscribers have the option to add Mpix & Mescape for an additional $3/mo if they don't already have the TMN package that contains them. (for west MC subs the $3 add on is for EA 1&2)

Just called Bell and the cheapest you can get Superchannel Pack for is $13. There is no discount if you already have TMN/MC. Oh well, no way I'm adding another $13 to my monthly bill for these marginal channels. Guess my wife will have to find another way to get her Passions fix ;)

Sure, Bell could bundle TMN/MPix/SuperChannel for $34/mth ... would you buy it? That's the combination of $19 + $15 at "MSRP". ExpressVu does offer TMN/MPix at $16 if you take 6 theme packs ... is $31/mth ok for the bundle? Or are you looking for $29/mth? That would give you the standard TMN/MPix theme pack price plus $2/mth off SuperChannel.

I dunno ... it still sounds rather a lot. I think we all need to see the Free Preview of SuperChannel first before committing to $180 more per year in premium movie charges.

In the mail today, a local cable provider in Saskatchewan was advertising that they will have Superchannel on November 5. Their pricing is $16.95 a month.
