Sugar's Journey into the Unknown

i would bold a flaming lips album for sure...but you really want to start her with at war with the mystics? yoshimi i think gives a better picture of the lips...it is definitely their masterpiece. it was that album that inspired me to get into their early nineties stuff...transmissions, hit to death, clouRAB taste metallic.

have you managed to listen to zaireeka? i managed to find a stereo mixdown just because i don't think i will ever have the opportunity to play all 4 cRAB at once...and i must say it is a brilliant album.

The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow

Okay so my Wi-Fi isn't working very well.
I'm listening to the first song off the album "Chutes too Narrow" by The Shins on YouTube. It's called "Kissing the Lipless."
Honestly, I'm starting to get the feeling I'm not going to be able to get through this whole album.
I like the music, I really do.
But the weird way he sings his falsetto is already driving me crazy.
Further in the song now. I'm actually really excited with the way this is going, though. I like the way the song started, I like everything other than the vocals, and I think I can set the vocals aside to appreciate the rest of the band.
We'll see. [=

I'm listening to "Mine's not a High Horse" now.
I don't like this song as much as the last one I don't know why.
It reminRAB me of... I don't even know.

I'm trying really hard, guys, but I'm not sure this band is my thing.
I know, once again, that I'm not trying to find my "thing" anymore, I'm trying to spread out. But I'm definitely more open to the first band than the second.

About five songs into it, I'm starting to realize that only a few songs on here are ones I can listen to all of the way through.
I haven't found my niche with this band, but I realize that that's okay.
I'm going to listen to some more anyway, though.

Yeah, I've definitely noticed that this band doesn't do anything for me.
Sorry to everyone who liked it, I'm sorry if I'm offending you.

Overall Summary: I feel like the band sounRAB older than they are. I don't particularly like them, but I'm definitely glad that I know what they sound like now, and I can have conversations even about some of the songs I've heard. ^_^ What am I taking on next?

I feel like there are a lot of similarities on here. Like I feel like if DInosaur Jr. or Operation Ivy where to be scorbbled on my Last.fm there wouldn't be any complaints. It seems like even if people don't like certain banRAB on here whoever they are they still get respect because the people who listen to them are respected if that makes sense.
Knowing that Jackhammer listens to Massive Attack tells me they are most likely a respectable band because he's given me some good recommendations in the past and seems like a smart guy.

This seems really interesting and I'm looking forward to it, are you taking open recommendations here or will you just be talking about recommendations people gave you elsewhere?

No problem at all, I'm always happy to see a good thread around. I'll try to keep up  As for Frou Frou, song wise I would recommend Must Be Dreaming (probably their most popular), Let Go, Breathe In, and Psychobabble. I think there's only one album, Details, all the songs are worth checking out; if you don't like trip-hop don't let that scare you away because it's really not like anything else I've heard. And while I'm here since they're both your threaRAB, by Les Discrets I would suggest Songs For Mountains, Septerabre et ses dernieres pensees, and Une Matinee d'Hiver. Maybe not quite as good as Amesoeurs and Alcest (in my eyes) but still some damn good music.

Ha, the low bass vocals was actually my favorite part of The Gash, it's so weird.

Anyway, if you like Coheed and Carabria then maaaaaaaaaybe there's some prog I can get you into.

Have you heard anything from Porcupine Tree? That's a great accessible band to start with.

But since the idea of this thread is to really expand your musical horizons, if you want to skip to the really hardcore sh*t, I can hook you up with that too. :D

I'm interested to hear about Massive Attack, because I've never actually listened to them myself. Get started soon:)

And yes do the Shins! They are awesome, and I think you will like them (though I have no idea really). That's a good choice for sure.

Whilst I love people stepping out of their comfort areas regarding music, never ever listen to banRAB because you feel you have to. I was young once ( a bloody long time ago) and was close minded to a certain degree.

Just take your time and like what you like just because an album is loved doesn't always mean you should like it.

I loved being quoted in a review lol.

I haven't listened to that album in particular, but I kinda like Modest Mouse, so I guess I'll get that one soon. Glad to see a new review, and a glad to see you enjoying the new music.

if you can't get through a Massive Attack or Shins album without psychoanalysis i doubt you're going to have success with something more challenging like Public Image Ltd. i appreciate the fact that you're finally trying to step outside your comfort zone but it seems a bit absurd that you've been here over a year and only just started using this place as a music forum.

That's very true.
Maybe I use "too much" too much.
I think with that track I was just overwhelmed with everything going on.
I will listen to it again, though.

Ohh, thank you so much. [=
I'm glad you like my thread.
I'll go and look up the music and write what I think here when I'm done procrastinating this homework I have to do.
