I was taken as rather coherent before that last post, and I suspect Janszoon was asking me to make a move before he was found presumptive and flat-footed in his argument. I don't think he didn't understand.
Don't you have some terrible music to enjoy?
Half the time I resign myself to the understanding that my awesome cerebral prowess can only be with stood by pretending you [people] don't understand me. Which only really hammers home the point.
I operate at a higher plane, and I've come to terms with my own genuis. Its lonely at the top, but frankly I wouldn't want to be surrounded by half-wits anyhow.

I think the person with the most mysterious taste in music to me is Freebase. I have no idea what areas his taste goes to. I know he likes IDM and Deftones, but other than that he could be totally into New KiRAB On the Block for all I know. What I do know is that every time he throws me a rec it enRAB up being really stellar music.

Darkest Hour-open up your mind a bit, just listening to metalcore and Eminem can't be healthy
Mirrorball95-good taste, pretty similar to mine, got me in to Neil Young now
jackhammer- i could probably ask him for a reccomendation to any genre and get a handful of artists
sleepy jack-seems like kind of an indie elitist at times
khfreek-great taste in music, especially fo this age
coryallen2-seems pretty open to other genres, and should talk more about his musical tastes

Oh yeah, those ****in' kiRAB.
It's not just about finding obscure music. That's elitist and not what I am about. I just happen to find music that slips under the radar regardless of the era and I am not as thick skinned as others and get annoyed when I feel as if I am accused of living in the past etc.

i'm not really a fan of the volta. two of my frienRAB are like diehard fans, but i never got the hype at all. well into atd-i though.

Metallica are legendary? I dunno about that. They were once a respectable band that should've given it up years ago, just like U2. Should've fucked off years ago.

Most Emo is shit, I'd say over 90%. Bits and bobs out there that's pretty good though, but not really my thing.

TV On The Radio are okay, not 'love worthy' though.
Maroon 5 are God awful.
Ryan Adams is a little boring.
Never been able to really get into Cake, probably listened to the wrong album or summin' but what I heard I thought was poor.
Drive-By Truckers, same as Cake really. Picked an album at random, Pizza Deliverance I think and it wasn't bad... but I didn't feel the need to listen to them again.
But you like Modest Mouse, QOTSA and Nick Cave so you're not all bad.

As a prog fan I know the value of repeated listens.
I downloaded a Glenn Branca album, I've listened to it 2 or 3 times. It's something I can appreciate but it's just not something I seriously enjoy listening to.
I'm not knocking avant garde music itself so much as the pretentious art culture surrounding it, and that is clearly just my subjective opinion. I dig John Zorn and Fred Frith, at least.
C'mon, now you're just analizing me to death, that was clearly a subjective statement, when I said I don't find it aesthetically pleasing, I mean I don't find it aesthetically pleasing, if others do that's fine, I never said it wasn't art, I just personally think conceptual art is horrible.

I think avant garde purists look at progressive rock in a way similar to how post-modernists view acadamic art.
That is, not very favorably.
