Spider-Man To Be Rebooted Without Original Cast or Director

I think its a positive step in the right direction, spiderman 3, while not terrible, had no rewatchability factor and wasnt great!!

I have never been a fan of Toby Mcguire, the reboot of the hulk i thought was a great success (compared to Lee's version anyway), so bring it on I say!!

Stan Lee better pull his finger out a create more filmable super heroes, otherwise fantastic four, daredevil, ghostrider will all be rebooted, now we wouldnt want that, would we??

How boring.

Instead of rebooting the same old franchises again and again, why not give some lesser known superheroes some attention?

Anything other than this groundhog day of endless Superman/Batman/Spiderman movies.

I'm really craving something fresh and there is such a huge wealth of superheroes and stories they could choose from, and adapt to screen with success if they handled with care. It's disappointing and frustrating to get nothing but the same old, same old all the time.

Hey, I LIKED The Crow!!!

I agree, though. Dumb idea, and too soon.

Of course, the worst thing is that if Raimi's not at the helm we won't get any awesome Bruce Campbell action.

Bit of a double edged sword with the reboot...

A part of me says the time is right, the last movie was a disappointment and I would welcome a change in direction at this point.

But with another reboot comes another origin story...and it seems far too soon to do that all over again.

Superman Returns got round that problem by being more of a 'continuation' of the previous story - but I felt it failed because it tried to hard to be reverential to the Reeve era movies.

I think Superman Returns failed because of the awful plot with Lois Lane's son. It pissed all over the "last son of Krypton" mythos and I can see why so many people hated it. The only thing I really liked about that movie was the beautiful film noir look it had going on. Otherwise it tried too hard but just didn't work.

If I have to sit through another Superman origin story in the near future, I think I'll kill myself, so I hope they leave that franchise alone for a good long while. I love the character and his universe but the origin story has been so overexposed I lose the will to live just thinking about the possibility of the Hollywood suits trying yet again.

The ridiculous reboot plan sounRAB like a big "F*** you!" because Raimi walked away from Spider-Man 4. Does anyone else suspect Sony are trying to drag Raimi back to the negotiating table by making this silly threat?

not sure its such a bad idea. riamis idea of spiderman has played itself out. esp with the last film which was just dire. they've also held it back until they can get a good script which is commendable.

Oh good god, that does not fill me with any confidence at all. At least Raimi understood that Peter is supposed to be a nerd and not a pretty boy.

If Efron gets the part, I'm officially not watching.

Taylor Lautner has been cast in the lead in 2 films in the last couple of weeks- Max Steel and Northern Lights, and the perception is he's gonna be huge, I think he'd want too much money to do spiderman- remember he'd effectively be committing for 10 years as the studio will no doubt want the lead to agree to 3 films not 1. He'd want a major pay day for that.

Hey, sometimes Hollywood works in mysterious ways, like in the early noughties when Colin Farrell started receiving multi million dollar pay cheques despite never having drawn any money as an actor, because all the major studios saw Tigerland and decided he was going to be a huge star without any real hard evidence.

I'm glad they are rebooting Spiderman, I just hope they get the tone right.

Spiderman 1 & 2 weren't bad but 3 was terrible in terms of story and characterisation.

The last 3 films mainly worked because of the special effects bringing Spiderman to life in a way that hadn't been done before, seeing him swing from building to building was what I wanted to see. Hopefully they will make him more spider like too.

I didn't like the way they turned Spiderman and Peter into a wimp, especially in relation to Mary Jane. Mary Jane just seemed so self involved. I mean there was her boyfriend, a Superhero saving the city from super criminals and all she worried about was if he was at her show or not.

Nah, he's pretty much a star now, and as such would want a major chunk of change to play spidey. They'll get someone less known, who they could pay less.

no i doubt it, he has no proven box office bank. many minor stars who get their own films fail. tent pole films like spiderman are not about people coming out to watch tobey mguire, the star is spiderman. the concept of the star with box office opening power has diminished lately, the film itself is more important. used to be that the tom cruise/julia roberts of the world could almost garrantee a minimum box office, now it doesn't really work that way anymore so lautner really has little bargaining power. he neeRAB such a film far more than they need him. just look at avatar, they didn't pay a star 20 million to star, they got some ausi dude that was in terminator and barely known. the cast of star trek? most are unknowns...

The film didn't do that. Peter was always a pussy when it came to Mary-Jane and she was always a self-involved bimbo (ok, she did show she was deeper than that on occasion, but for the most part, she was just a party-girl)

It was truer to the old Spiderman comics than the more modern ones and cartoon (read, spiderman from the 80s). Although, having said that, it still wasn't as dark as the old comics. In the originals, Goblin dropped Gwen Stacey off a bridge (like he did to MJ in Spiderman 1) and Peter accidently snapped her neck whilst trying to save her. Spiderman didn't tend to get happy endings in the old days.

Which is probably the reason why Raimi never wanted Venom in the films - seeing as Venom was character from the newer Spiderman comics and didn't fit in with the old style he seemed to be going for.

Oh I could go on, but I feel like enough of a geek now!

Raimi wanted Ben Kingsley as the Vulture but Venom is popular with spotty teenage fanboys hence the partial bodge job on Spidey 3.

The Goblin & Sandman storylines work fine.

Woah, I actually like Spiderman 3 so im more surprised than all of you!

Probably wont bother watching any reboot and just stick to what I would consider the 'original' three films.

WIll it be Spiderman 4 or under a totally different name anyway.

Venom sucked, they ruined he was nothing like the comics.

im glad its being re-booted, hopefully this time they actually focus on Spiderman more then peter parker.

I wonder if Sony/Columbia will now replace its intended release slot with their other potential 2011 moneymaker, Ghostbusters 3? Seems the natural thing to do.
