Spider-Man To Be Rebooted Without Original Cast or Director

Good, 3 was so bad as a huge fan of spiderman they completly ruined Venom and Toby Maquire has gone really crap and the director seems to have focused more on Peter Parker rather Then Spiderman so I'm pleased with this news and hope it's true.

Raimi's first 2 versions of Spider-man are brilliant, the sequel in particular. It had the right balance of PP/Sm conflicts. And it was well known that Raimi never wanted to do the Venom story but was pressured into it by the idiot that is Avi Arad. So what do we have now, another reboot and guess what... Arad's still on board as a producer, mouthing off. Pillock.

This I fear is very close to the truth. Expect comedy noises, (ie 60s Batman TV series) and cheesy script from now on.:mad:

Sony have appeared to leak word the spidey 4 script was "legendarily awful" to AICN as damage control. Edit: and apparently involved Peter and MJ having a kid, you know, because Superman Returns worked so well!

I don't mind this to be honest. I'd rather have a good Spiderman film than a bad one.

I liked the 1st two films, but 3 just packed to much in and tried to hard, also destroyed what was built up in the 1st one.
A reboot could be good, but with rumours of Michael Bay being involved senRAB shivers down the Spine

I'm really surprised they are talking about re-booting Spider-Man so soon. There has only been 3 films, there was definately scope for at least one more with Toby Maguire and Kirsteen Dunst.

Let's hope the re-boot pays off :)

Has hollywood gone crazy?its not even been 10years and they are rebooting the series already, how much money is enough?easily the most absurd thing ive heard this week.

I can believe that. Didn't the script get passed around tons of people to re-write? They should just give up. Does anyone actually want to watch a Spiderman origins film already back in high school. I'll pass thanks. Iron Man and Batman have set the new benchmark anyway for superhero films. We also have Thor and Green Lantern coming up amongst others.

Far far too early for a reboot of this, we're going to get a film that is similar to spiderman 10 years ago.
Reboot seems to be the new remake in hollywood at the moment.

Whilst Raimi was allowed to kick it old skool the Spidey franchise was in good hanRAB.

The writing was on the wall once he was forced to shoe horn Venom into his Ditko inspired universe.

Unfortunately this re-boot will probably be more of the same Venom inspired crap.

Yes this definately appears to be the case. It's a bit of a lifeline for some of these Hollywood studio bosses. Whenever they can't agree on a good story or idea, they go for a re-boot. They have done this with Batman and Superman, though both of these franchises had long been forgotton about by the time both Batman Begins and Superman Returns where released and deserved a re-boot.

Re-booting Spider-Man which was only re-booted about 8 years ago seems a crazy idea to me.

I can't believe all the negativity here! How do you know it's going to be awful? Remember all the fuss about Star Trek? It seemed a terrible idea (I was particularly against the whole idea of a reboot) but it turned out to be absolutely superb! When they appoint Michael Bay as director then you have a right to go ballistic.

The good thing anyway is no more Kirsten Dunst - she really was terrible!

Maguire was brilliant but he was starting to look his age in Spidey 3 and the annoyingly silly 'evil' Peter stuff was hardly studio-enforced.
The series can still work without Raimi if they get the right director and decent scriptwriters as the character/s were established long before the films.
Just as long as the studio doesn't think combining Spiderman and 3D is enough to pull in punters regardless of the film itself.

I don't care for Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films but I'm surprised a reboot is happening so soon after such a financially & critically successful trilogy.

Probably. IMO it should have been rebooted when they decided to release a new movie instead of tying Superman Returns to the Donner films.

As for Spider-man, I feel it is too soon for a re-boot, certainly to do another origin story. For me Raimi got the tone of the comics just about right, so it will be hard to match that. They'll have to go radically different for me.
