South Park - "The Ring" - Talkback [3/11]

Ha ha, I love how he tries to somehow make a point with this simple fact about CC's schedule.

Not that he's going to bother to explain this position at all. It sounds scary so it must be right.

I think there's an erroneous assumption going around that Disney is exploiting Christian belief as part of their marketing. Where the heck does that assumption come from? The Jonas Bros., as I understand it, are Christian, and the rings are their idea. What's Disney supposed to do, tell them to shut up about it? I mean really. Just because Disney has a clean-cut family image, there are some people who just seem to lie in wait, hoping to see a chink in their armor which would expose them as the greedy, evil-minded master manipulators they are. (BWAHAHAHAHAA!!!) Yeesh. And if no chink appears, they'll make one up. That's why I don't really care for this episode, South Park fan though I am. The premise is so tired. It's far from evocative in this day and age, where Christian-bashing goes on everywhere. Shows are even built around it (the vapid Morel Orel). There are some here wondering if Disney will retaliate against SP over the episode. Why should they? If they were to do that to every screwball who rails against them, they'd be in court 24/7. I doubt Disney cares. They just keep doing what they're doing, and basically, whether you like Hannah or the Jonas Bros. or not - they're not doing anyone any harm. Boy bands have been around for decades, long before Disney got into the business. And they'll be around for decades to come, whether Disney stays in the business or not.

I've said it once, I'll say it again: Moral Orel isn't about bashing Christianity. It's about hypocrites who use religion as a means to control and take advantage of other people. For example, Orel stays a devout Christian throughout the entire series and still manages to have a great life as the head of loving, happy family in the end.

Which the much-disturbed creator of the show sees as the majority of the Christian religion. Sorry, but no matter how you try to slice it, Moral Orel's a lame attempt at Christian bashing based only around the common stereotypes and the churchgoing traumas the creator had to endure as a kid. Really, is it any wonder it never caught on?

Brent Bozell missed the entire point of the episode. I love that these people who can't see obvious points or messages are writing these opinion pieces to share their uninformed opinions.

Moral Orel is a show about how people take something like Christianity and use it for the wrong things, while the main character (who uses it for good, the proper way) is constantly made out to be wrong. It's not a comment on religion, but society itself and the people within it.

Exactly as I said before. Before you want to jump on South Park for ragging the Jonas Brothers and their purity rings, you need to understand that Matt and Trey were really targeting Disney's business practices. If anything, the Jonas Bros. were being portrayed in a sympathetic light (being little more than pawns in Disney's game). It's just like the episode about Britney Spears a while back, which was really a way to rip on tabloid journalism as opposed to Britney Spears herself.

Boy, what a clueless column. Ironically, a column from a hardline rightwinger sight like Newsbusters. Ironic in that Trey and Matt have tended to be rightward leaning.

Well, frankly, I don't care about the Jonas Bros. I also don't see them as pawns in some sort of evil plot by Disney. Okay, okay, it was just a satirical jab at Disney by the usually even-handed South Park crew. It's just....that I expected better from them. Everybody portrays Disney as this big evil organization, when in truth it's provided some of the best entertainment ever created for people of all ages. And that's why it's prospered. That alone. Any bad stuff that's happened to people who work for them is due to the people themselves. Disney isn't responsible for Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan turning into pitiful public embarrassments. Disney didn't make Miley Cyrus pose provocatively in those absurd photo shoots, or spread pictures of herself in underwear all over the internet. Disney provided those kids with the opportunity to prosper, same as any other entertainment entity.

Frankly, I think a lot of the animosity towards Disney is political in nature, and I also think that there are people that just hate the fact that its overall squeaky-clean image and output is still so successful. I don't understand that, any more than I understand all the hate leveled at the success of High School Musical. I've never watched any of that franchise and have no interest in it; but I'm glad there's something positive and wholesome out there aimed at teens that teens actually like. That's a freaking miracle in this day and age.

:) That episode was very amusing and tremendous all the way through :anime:. The Jonas Brothers song was really hysterical with one of them keep saying " Baaaaaaaaaaaby" that always make me chuckle. The Mickey Mouse animation style is proficient great and I do like Mickey being all violent and using swearing words and saying " Ha ha" when he finished his sentence :D, y'know he always uses that.

I also like it when Cartman warning Kenny about not letting Tammy give him a B.G. running gag and he was right all along:anime: .

PS: I love it where Mickey spits fire balls on thin air

10/10. Best episode ever :anime: :anime:
