South Park - "The Ring" - Talkback [3/11]

I was thrilled not only to get more Kenny, but that they're really fleshing him out these days more than just "the victim." Kenny is the wild, crazy guy -- and it makes sense, and fits in with continuity.

Mickey was also great. I wouldn't call this the best premiere EVER, though. Come on, even better than "The Return of Chef"?

Season 13 of South Park starts up tonight at 10 PM Eastern on Comedy Central. Tonight's episode is episode 182. Here is the synopsis:

Looks like the season premiere will be more focused on the kids and not some evil organization. Of course, we won't know for sure until the episode airs tonight.

I can't believe Kenny died in this one. The first episode he's talked in let alone starred in and he's killed. Oh well that South Park for ya.

Actually according to a TV Guide interview one of the issues Matt and Trey wanted to parody this half season (along with the Economy and possible a Terrance and Phillip centric ep) was Purity rings. You know those rings where you have to promise the person you got them with that you'd only have sex after your married. There's a preview clip floating around that states

Kenny's girlfriend is kind of a slut. And since Kenny's somewhat a pervert he'd probably be okay with that if he was getting some. So I have a feeling this whole purity ring angle is going to piss Kenny off a lot as he tries to figure out a way around it which will probably have something to do with either the Jonas Brothers having an evil scheme or just general hatred on the Jonas Brothers. They could just be a background prop like HSM in "Elementary School Musical" but I think Matt and Trey will actually do more with them then just have them be the popular thing everyone is into.

it is interesting to note that this is the first time that Kenny has a focus in a season premiere (Unless you want to count the last time he got a girlfriend all the way back in Season 3's "Rainforest Schmanforest"). Which I'm sure will please ultra kenny fan Master Moron and hopefully signify that along with this and "Major Boobage" they're trying to at least now give Kenny an ep a year to shine.

Did Tammy remind anyone else of Peppermint Patty? Not only in looks, but the way she spoke. Calling Kenny "Ken", the long non sequiter way of talking, the semi-monotone voice.

I also liked how Cartman was pretty much using his powers for good instead of evil this time around. I like when he's the anti-hero, but it's cool to occasionally see him actually on the same wavelength as Stan and Kyle with no animosity.

Mickey Mouse turns into a Godzilla towards the end. Too bad the South Park Mickey is not voiced by Wayne Allwine.

Also: Did Kenny really die at the end? And no "G.I. Joe" after Cartman said "And knowing is 1/2 the battle"?

You are allow to do a parody of something. There is nothing illegal about using a parody of Mickey Mouse in the episode. They have done parodies of celebrities and institutions for years.

The question isn't whether or not it's legal -- it is. The question is, does Disney want to give them a hard time? Because Disney can do whatever it wants.

Wow, it's been a while since I've posted here...

I thought this episode was fantastic. It was nice seeing a Kenny-centric episode (which are generally awesome) even if he did die (again). I must admit I about lost it when Mickey came in and started beating the crap out of Joe, and then of course the classic "make the villain monologue" scene near the end.

I have a feeling the Disney lawyers are nipping at the bit to go to town on this, since they don't seem the type to let something like this go.
