South Park - "201" - Talkback [4/21]

If I'm asking it means I don't understand.

:V

The reason they came to CC is because on CC would let them get away with half the stuff they show.

And Viacom/CC owns the rights to South Park so how could they move?

PREVIOUSLY ON SOUTH PARK: Led by Tom Cruise, celebrities finally get their revenge on the town of South Park in a class-action lawsuit. Tom Cruise will call off the lawsuit in exchange for the prophet Muhammad, so they can never be made fun of again. Meanwhile, the gingers want Muhammad as well, and have rigged the town with explosives, and Cartman learns the real truth about his father.

Who will get Muhammad? Who is Cartman's father? Is this the end of South Park? Will any of these questions be resolved? Find out tonight at 10PM Eastern on Comedy Central.

Thankfully this wasn't a joke episode and we got the contiuation and I'm guessing conclusion of this plotline. Really IMHO They could of easily stretched this out into a three parter but I guess they wanted to save that for the more epic storyline ideas, and probably didn't want to have to dig anymore into they're continuity for ideas. Though there were a lot of good digs: We got Casa Bonita, Pip, Mephisto and Kevin (I guess they just didn't want to be bothered, thus not appearing for 10 something years), and of course the maniac out for revenge, Scott Tenorman. I guess we can attirbute his voice change due to him going insane after his debut ep and hey finally got the answer to Cartman's Father: A Denver Bronco Player who was also Scott's father. That actually makes a lot of sense thinking about it: I thought Gerald as Cartman's dad would work since it'd mean Cartman would be something he'd hate, but not only is he something he's hate, but he's also something he killed. Which makes Cartman's ultimate victory really ironic. Although being the messed up sadistic *sshole Cartman is, all he cares about is having Ginger blood, which like most things is negated by having Broncho blood. Cartman's story had the best bits in this episode, from the opening of Mitch Connor, getting into Mephesto's house, Cartman saying people want to know who his dad is, meeting up wtih Scott again, finding out the truth and his reaction to it.

The other plot was pretty good. I was hoping for a revenge battle with the celeberties who did like South Park (includng the return of Robert Smith, who got a mention here) but I did like the Super Best friends team up, from theyr'e method of transporation being mopeds, to trying to fight Mecha Stresiand, and... well the neil diamond concert went on a bit too long (as well as the ending bleeped out speech, though I get the point of it) but still good effort fighting celeberites and gingers alike. (Though we could of used more of that actually. As well as more celeberites clamoring not to be made fun). Nice ending too with Tom Cruise being able to be made fun of due to there being no "goo" and being put into Space along with Wilzyx. Truthfully this plot also would of been better with three parts but those are the only qualms I can give this episode actually: two sort of dry spots and the fact I wished we'd continue this next week. Otherwise defintley the highlight of the season so far and a reminder that SP can actually kick ass using it's own continuity. You hear that Matt and Trey? USE IT MORE. Cause when you do, you get set stuff like this.

Words completely fail. Hopefully I have more words later. I also didn't check any new replies from the 200 thread so I have to do that later anyway.

The episode needed to be epic moment after epic moment, but those epic moments would not have landed without the firm exclamation point to end the sentence. And this South Park episode 201 had both. I couldn't be happier, or more proud of Trey and Matt and their South Park company.

He looked and sounded fine to me (it may be a nitpick but I'll look at his nose on future airings because I didn't really notice anything). The only difference is that little Kevin's skin was lighter. It's funny. With all the developing of past stories, characters, and episode no matter how potentially forgoten (except to the hardcore South Park fanboys) when I saw Kevin I thought maybe he'd speak or sing or do something from that Primus song off the South Park Chef Aid album, since a (very cool and weird and enjoyable) track at the end of the album gives the kid a little backstory.

LOL! Me too. It just clicked, because of the obvious "ya know, he was ginger too" thing. And the Joker feel/theme was definitely funny. It was a plan worthy of The Joker. But if you REALLY wanted to feed my inner fanboy you would have made his Joker Jet Pack a bit more like a jet pack Joker has used in the past. ;) It's cool though. I mean the less you cater to your inner fanboy one one of your fanboy subjects the more you'll enjoy the new material/episode/movie/etc.

I also loved how they just referred to the group of celebrities directly as The Legion of Doom. lol! Reminds me of the initiative made by The WGA: That's right: The World Canadian Beurau! :p

I thought that too, AND Imagination Land. I don't know why we all thought that. I guess our minds reached as far back as the short amount of time we had to guess would allow, and just grabbed whatever we could before the instant the episode showed us the actual answer. I'm sure if we got a longer time to think we would have figured it out. That Whale episode was hilariousy wrong.

Give it some time to sink into pop culture history. It'll find its place. It was just so hyped up unconsciously in your head because of how excellent the first part was, and how they were setting up all these things that made you think, "oooh I wanna know what's up with that character/subplot!"

Well, because... they're nowhere near those extremes, perhaps? The worst anyone is saying (anyone I've seen, anyway) is "boycott Comedy Central", which is quite clearly not on the same level as threatening violence.

I wouldn't mind if CC had decided to censor something deemed obscene, like if Trey & Matt had tried to sneak in an extreme profanity or lewd photo or something. But bleeping out an idea just goes way too far in my opinion. Especially given the level of trust and freedom that has been previously established with this show.

UPDATE: "Super Best Friends" has been removed from Southparkstudios.com.

hmmmm I'm going with another Terrance and Phillip interruption before we get resolution to this storyline which I think will be resolved? next week...

Personally I was thinking Marklar, and Cruise would get mocked by Starvin' Marvin and the Ethiopians but that's because I'm an old timer. Nice to see Jambu again.

Who decides what lines should and shouldn't be crossed? Who watches the Watchmen? Why is making fun of Buddha and Jesus okay, but Muhammad is of limits?

There is a difference between practical and morality, I suppose on a practical
level CC did what they thought was needed for their own safety, but that doesn't mean it was the morally. It was the safe route, but safe isn't always the best. If people didn't do the less safe, but more moral thing sometimes, we wouldn't have had the American revolution, the Civil Rights movement and India wouldn't have become an independent country in 1947.

Let me put it this way, if some criminal put a gun to my face and asked for my money, does the fact that he has a practical advantage over me and the fact I would give him my money instead of trying to fight him, does that give the criminal the moral right to mug me?

What's the difference between this Muslim radical group and a mugger? I see no difference, they both use violence to get their way. This is beyond political correctness, this is active coercion through force.

Yeah I can see why CC did this, but does that negate the immorality of the group who forced this change in the first place? And when coercion becomes systematic and where a small group can just threaten violence and freedom of speech is negate because 13 people don't like what you are saying, then something is seriously wrong.

So by this logic.

Mr. Muhammad would have been in the bear costume, and we wouldn't get Mr Hanky's cameo either.

And the hiding behind the dumpster part of the episode, which also was important to the story wouldn't be there either.

So they hastily rewrite the entire episode?

...what :V

I'm wondering if the long bleeping at the end was a joke. It probably was with the way they had the characters keep going "yeah, because *bleeeeeeep* "yada yada bleeeeeep"

Or they could have just kept repeating Muhammed over and over.

Or it could be a callback to Anal Probe when Kyle starts cursing at the aliens and gets extendedly bleeped. (but thats probably not it)

LMFAO Considering the odds, they'll continue the plot AND drag it onto next week. Makes sense, next week's epi is the mid-season finale so I can see a 3 parter. Darth Chef, DARTH CHEF! Oh and Crab people... a T&P cop-out for the first 3 mins or so like in Cartoon Wars would be hilarious. Butter not be the whole episode. (Better spelt wrong on purpose, not referring to Butters.) A Butters cop-out is a no-no.
