South Park - "201" - Talkback [4/21]

I just do not get how did Santa get involved. Did Stan at all go the North Pole? I did hear it might have been a cop out from Trey Parker and Matt Stone, but it really made no sense. And why did the Ginger's not blow up South Park? As I cannot watch it again, exactly why did they not?

On the lack of "to be continued..." in last week's episode: the only time I remember Trey and Matt actually doing that was in Do the Handicapped Go to Hell (although it's possible that it may have also appeared in Go, God, Go as well).

However, I do agree that it's possible that tonight's episode will be a "prank" episode, with the real conclusion airing next week.

Having just recently developed an interest in "South Park" and not owning any of the DVDs yet, something tells me I'd better grab Season 5 first. (While I still can.)

Just to recap...

Islam takes a strong stance against idolotry. The reasoning goes then that it is wrong to depict Mohammed, because the depiction could be an idol. I think the Jehovah's Witness people similarly prohibit any paintings or statues of Jesus and other religious figures, the stuff you alternatively would find in a Catholic church. This stance has a strong influence on Islamic art: You'll notice that Islamic art never shows people or animals. It's always abstract shapes. Also remember how the Taliban painted over all the artwork of people at the Kabul Museum, and blew up the Buddhas.

Just who the heck are these "revolutionmuslim.com" guys? They seem to be just a bunch of bozos trying to cash in on this controversy. Comedy Central should sue the pants off them for their irresponsible behavior.

It says in the episode Mr.Hankey brought him. And for the Santa being their. Kinda reference to Stones and Parkers original short Jesus v.s Santa... The Gingers were about to blow it up when the boys brought the censored Mohammed in.

Violence only gets you somewhere in first grade and that's the principal's office. Again I don't like it when they make fun of Jesus, but I'm not going to kill them over it. It's a TV show, not meant to be serious. Calm down, terrorists.

There won't be any pranking tonight. Anyone who's been watching the news this week should know. I predict tonight's episode will be a blatant challenge to those radical muslims who've been threatening Matt and Trey. Maybe they'll show Mohammed, maybe they won't, but they will challenge them in this episode.

Crap, apparently this episode so is so controversial they decided to replace the repeat with another episode. Either that or Comedy Central is punishing me for not seeing it when it premired.

Maybe they will show only 1 half of him. Black censor while the other has him in his SBF outfit. How about flashbacks, are those allowed to show the SBF episode? Could a pciture work? Like Mr. Garrison said, "Is that OK??"

Well, uh, it's not exactly a show of respect. It wasn't intended to be one either. Plus, the same "image" logic deflates your argument, as being offended is as natural as laughter. But this is a debate for some other forum.

It's astounding that CC went so far as to censor an opinion, not just an image or a word. This is going to hound them for a long time. At least I hope so.

I was just about to ask about this. I was at work when the episode aired, and now I'm ticked because they're showing an earlier episode where the new one's repeat should be. Ugh.

Just a little speculation on why the speeches at the end were also bleeped, even though they don't mention Mohammed.

We know that the speeches were going to be about fear and intimidation. I think Kyle, Jesus, and Santa were going to make the point that no one is immune to ridicule. Not celebrities with high-priced lawyers, not gingers with explosives, and not Mohammed.

And then, after Stan says yeah, we would see a quick shot of the censor bar around Mohammed vanishing, just like Tom Cruise's bar. Mohammed would be clearly visible. He wouldn't be doing anything funny, or saying anything at all. He would just be standing there, lookin' normal. And we would only see him for a second.

Of course, if Comedy Central isn't going to allow his name to be spoken, they certainly aren't going to allow him to be shown. So that part of the episode was cut out. But the speeches just before it don't make any sense without that shot. So Comedy Central bleeped all the speeches and tried to pass it off as a joke about their own censorship.

Again, that's just a hunch. I have nothing to back any of that up. Just a gut feeling.
