South Park - "201" - Talkback [4/21]

I love it when people say exactly what I did about 2 pages ago. :anime:

I really did not see them doing that at the end, but it totally wraps it up, and there is nothing anyone of us can say to contradict it.

Or... Maybe they could try to end the show now, while it's still popular. They could maybe take a break and live off residuals for awhile (I assume they get residuals for their work), and maybe try to create a new series (hopefully not a South Park "clone"... People often compare American Dad to Family Guy, but they don't compare King of the Hill to Beavis and Butthead, so it is possible for creators to make a completely different second series).

*hoping this won't ve a double-post* Matt and Trey are onto that, probably so a short 3 min cop-out would be great for a reference just as long as we get onto the main plot.

I believe it was on purpose, to show that we haven't learned a lesson, and we never will considering all of the events that happened leading up to the episode with people protesting the episode airing.

The santa thing was probably decided on by matt and trey and not comedy central when they saw most of the protesters were angry with muhammad being portrayed in a bear suit.

when the goo stopped working on tom cruise, it shows everyone is vulnerable to criticism and mocking, and nothing can be done to change that.

on top of all of that, they threw in references to at least 20 episodes and bringing back tons of old characters, i only have one complaint

Where was Towelie?

nevertheless, it wont kill the episode for me. This two parter is easily one of the best things ive seen in awhiile. Its the equivalent of the Simpsons Movie to the Simpsons. During an era where quite a few people believe south park has jumped the shark (usually around season 10), this two parter shows Matt and Trey still have what it takes to shove it in peoples faces and make something very creative at the same time

Oh come on. This is just getting (even more) ridiculous.

I didn't even know Comedy Central could do that on such short notice.

To me, the funniest part was when Tom Cruise first became censored. He was just standing there, and then *blip*, censor box. It was a fantastic sight gag. Great episode all around.

Given all the paranoia that's going on, is anyone else trying to download the Cartoon Wars 2-parter on Xbox Live or PSN ASAP before those two episodes get pulled as well?

I'm still thinking we're gonna get a prank episode. The lack of anything new in the preview clip, plus no "to be continued..." last week worries me. Plus the link between the number 201 and "Not Without My Anus."

I hope I'm wrong, but if it is a prank episode, hey, this gives Matt and Trey yet another week to argue with Comedy Central about showing Mohammed.

Holy. Crap.

I was on the fence as to whether all this self-referential stuff would really be worth it in the end, but it totally was. When the Scott Tenorman connection was revealed... Wow. It made a scary amount of sense. That's one of the greatest twists... ever.

All the stuff with the bleeping was hilarious too. (And clearly intentional. Nothing they could say would require CC to bleep them for 10 seconds straight, unless they deliberately used a string of forbidden words, in which case it would be a moot point anyway.) I also liked how they continued to play up the dichotomy between how they're allowed to portray Mohammed and how they're allowed to portray other religious icons. Immediately after a scene where they can't even say Mohammed's name, they cut to Jesus watching porn and telling Buddha not to do coke, while using a slur against him. It so concisely made the point and wasn't any more offensive than it needed to be, though I'm sure the Catholic League will complain about it again, oblivious to the actual message.

Also, Mephesto!

Why do you need a parallel universe? I'm sure there are lots of people who call themselves Christians out there who'd get totally offended by the way they portray Jesus. Remember the CAP Alert website? There probably are Christians out there offended enough to want to bomb Trey and Matt; they just haven't spoken up yet.

They could just be working together. Hey, at least it gives incentive to buy the DVD, you get to see Mohammad animated.

I wonder if 201 will be on DVD, just so it could be seen. Maybe an earlier release, like during the mid-season break. Hopefully they could do a full commentary on this episode, as it would be one of the more controversial ones. Hopefully it will be on the season 14 box set. More incentive to buy it.

The general promos for this season had clips with Cartman dressed as a ginger, presumably from this episode. Whether or not this week is a prank, I think we'll be getting some sort of conclusion.

I didnt say whether it was better than the Simpsons movie or not. I said it was better than most of the episodes as of late. Most fans of The Simpsons beleive it was better than the 10 or so seasons before it. A lot of people will say this two parter is better than most of south park as of late

Yeah, I'm not doubting that we'll get a conclusion. But there are two episodes left in this run, so I'm saying 1406 could be the prank, then they could end the season with the real conclusion to "200."

It's quite apparent that this was one of those episodes they actually planned out before starting on the season.

The more and more I see them censoring Muhammad, the more and more I think it's Comedy Central playing it safe, especially with it being gone from iTunes and you can only own that episode on the season 5 disc. Makes me glad that I have Season 5, who knows when they'll recall every one of them from the stores to remove that episode.

I was able to see the episode and I thought it was a pretty swell way to end the entry into the 200th episode mark. Thought the jokes were solid, and found them beeping Muhammad funny even if it made me go "What the hell is this crap?" I know that putting the censor bar over Muhammad was intentional during the last scene where Cruise was also censored, along with the bleeps, but seeing as how the SP creators are going out of their way to say that "Comedy Central is censoring us" I'm still skeptical on whom to believe. But I also thought that Cartman's sideplot about his "real" father was well done. Down from Scott acting like the Joker, and using the scene from "The Killing Joke."
