Somalia: A haven for private business

If you remove the foreign military from the picture, then you're absolutely right and I would be interested in the country. However I'm not interested in competing with foreign soldiers on the take with local businesses. That's why eastern europe, south america, etc. are better alternatives. The governments are weak and there is no stronger outside party to contend with.

i think we ought to bring civilization to somalia. like universal healthcare and breadlines. that way every pirate gets a free slice of bread and expensive AIDS medication up until we bankrupt ourselves and have to resort to, uh, piracy.

So much for low cost craps dealers, wait staff, and the clean up crews... I think your utopia is slipping already.

There's no government, no regulations, no constitution, and private enterprise there can serve whomever they want, and make as much profit as they want. Somalia is everything libertarians would like. Go to your Mecca, libertarians, and leave America to these "public" businesses you detest so much.

Ah, but then the U.S. government does protect the rights of its citizens. It even goes as far as to tell "private" businesses they can't deny service to people based on ethnicity alone.

Things are so much simpler in Somalia.

anarchy is a pretty good form of government for small groups of people.

Anarchy in the US would be anarchy as portrayed in movies and TV.

as soon as you hop in your time machine and go to your own person eden that was soviet russia

Seriously, is this someone's AE? Last I checked, libertarianism != anarchy. Libertarians still enjoy the rule of law and REASONABLE laws and regulation. Everything in life is a balance. Too much anarchy is chaos, too much government interventionism and regulation is chaos on a different level, I like the reasoned middle ground.

you're trying to make a point about anarchy or maybe libertarianism, but you're neglecting the fact that so long as national armies involved, it's neither. It would be equivalent to staging a coup in washington DC. Just because Somalia gets called anarchy by the airheads on CNN doesn't mean it's actually anarchy there.

listen, i dont see a reason to deal with black people if the government isn't telling me i have to. who needs clients? a business? pshaw.

well there is at least one study that says Somalia is better off without a government. And then there is you.

i think we ought to bring civilization to somalia. like gun control. that way none of the pirates will have guns and the innocent civilians will be 11ty billion times more safe, in prison, when we put them there for having guns to defend themselves against the pirates.
