Signs - Incredible!

Just seen the movie Signs, by the guy who did Sixth Sense and Unbreakable... what can i say, this is better than both of those put together!

Its interesting, scary, tense, emotional ... one of the best films i have seen for quite some time.

well the trailor looks good.

Really will be disapointed if there isn't a good twist and not one of these x-files story-lines too.

Hope the story is really a new idea.

Dont watch or read anything about it! I had no idea what to expect, just thought it was about crop circles... probably why i loved it so much :)

the story is excellent and all strangely fits together at the end, made me think the guy who wrote it really put some thought into this.

But the best bits are the scary suspense moments... god, i was squirming all over the place, i just didnt want to know what was gonna happen next!

It has really mixed reviews over at the imdb, but an overall 7.5 is pretty good as most of their reviewers are really harsh!

I dunno whether it'll be as cool the second time around, but i really wanna watch it again :)

I disagree the trailer made me think thats looks good but it really didnt touch the surface of the movie.

BUT for certain its the best film ive seen in 2002

I do too.
I like this sort of thing though.
Now all I need to find is someone to watch it with me when it comes out :(

I really wanted to like this before I went in but felt it wasn't that great. It was fairly enjoyable, but nothing special.
I did jump several times though. There are a few things I want to point out, but will leave it till a few more RAB readers have seen it as I don't want to spoil anything.

I would rate it 6/10.

no way... people who says its dissapointing surely must have missed a few things... tell me the plot holes/problems you have and i'll advise... i wont be happy til everyone loves this movie!! :)

I've seen it and the only problem is, by the way this will totally ruin the entire film if you read the next bit so I wil leave a big space...

I went to see Signs yesterday, on one of the two largest screens at the Ster Century cinema in the centre of LeeRAB.

I did enjoy the film, and would recommend it. However, both Sixth Sense and The Others are better films than this one.

The film has a lot going for it - an unsual storyline that is fairly captivating and very easy to follow. However, I can't help feeling that I'm less of a believer now that I've seen this film :-)

Drinking_Gecko : Yes there is a problem with this part of the film BUT then again is the film really about the aliens. I would argue that in fact the films about faith and human emotions and the whole crop circle/alien part is just there to create an atmosphere where all the aspects of human nature that Shyamalan wanted to explore would show themselves.

Its this whole aspect of the film that most of the people I know who didnt think it was great seemed to miss. They were expecting a regular hollywood sci fi type story and I'm sure if you went in expecting that and didnt look beyond the visuals you would come out thinking it was poor as its not a great peice of sci-fi.

What makes the movie a master peice is its a simple story that doesnt distract you from the core of the movie, which is told in the slow paced style that Shyamalan always uses but which works great, great camera work, great performaces, an atompsphere to it which comes close to that weaved by hitchcock and most importantly its put togethere extramly well

I thought that there were a few 'corny' moments.

As soon as Mel came out of the cellar I saw the bat on the wall so guessed what would happen next, especially as his wife mentioned 'swing' as a last word. A bit too obvious really.

When the discussion was about how they don't like water came about I thought the family would be safe due to the water that the little girl left about. Worked that one out fairly early on.

When he saw the alien in the corn why did he rush back to the house, then walk in slowly and not tell anyone what he saw ?

I thought the brother went a bit crazy, like hiding under the stairs and wearing the foil hat, and Mel seemed a bit distant, like 'Oh well'. Surely keeping the children safe and close would be top priority. Where were they when the brother was hiding ?

Why didnt he call the police to tell them that an alien was trapped in the pantry ?

And why was the crucifix not on the wall outside the bathroom, when he found his faith again, and was up when he had lost his love of god ?

Small things I guess, and to be quite honest these moments didnt spoil it for me.I would have liked to have seen more corn field encounters, and more of the attack on the house/cellar. The acting was good, and McCauly Culkins brother is a dead ringer for McCauly.

Craig, did you like What Lies Beneath ? Although different stories I found similarities in styles. And I didn't like 6th Sense BTW.

yes i like what lies beneath, also loved sixth sense when i first saw it.

I agree with wakey tho, i dont think films really is about aliens and crop circles at all. Sure there in it, but if you leave the cinema thinking about them i think you've missed the whole point of the movie!

What I also didnt get...another spoiler.

After Mel gibson saw the picture in the book of the house on fire and all of them laying dead, and when he also saw the alien leg in the crops, why the hell did he decide to stay in the house when the town or the lake seemed like the most sensible option anyway!

And I knew about the water thing from the start. As soon as the girl said it I knew it must have something to do with the aliens.
