I did think
Leo was definitely a patient
within the first 3 minutes. I said it in my head. I'm really slow at those things usually. In that moment I was more switched on than usual and wondering...,
'Why is Leonardo acting so wierd? I think he may be miscast, but why does this all feel a bit false and fake like?' And my mind ran from there, not long after I thought it was either all in his mind or they were role playing this scenario with him for some reason
I didn't guess
The stuff with his wife and how it related to Emily Mortimer though

I think its a very flawed film but has a lot to like about it, very pretty sets, good acting, it becomes enjoyable hokum after (what I found) a rather dull first 45 mins-1 hour.
 
Just seen it, i had only seen the trailer and not read any spoliers or anything. I thought it was going to be a horror movie, but glad it wasnt really. I loved the film and didnt see the twist coming at all!
 
You kidding me?? Trawl the local specialist movie store for forgotten silent movies, rewrite one as a book and watch the money (and film offers) come rolling in!!:eek::eek:
 
I wasn't sure which of us was right!!

Anyway, she was really good because:

She was so convincing that she made me doubt my theory, even though I had it worked out correctly.
 
I noticed straight away when
his partner/doc went up to the gates and he couldn't get the gun out the holster. Straight away I said to my fiancee, 'he is not a cop' (as in the doc not leo) and the whole way through I remained in that state of mind. Knew something was up but didn't think leo was a patient.

Still in the huff over this film not living up to my expectations!!! :D :o
 
Am I the only nerdy film buff here??

This film is a remake of
The cabinet of Dr Caligari
a classic silent film from the 20's.
When I went into the cinema a voice in my head (voices in my head!!:eek::eek::p) kept saying
"Dr Caligari..... Dr Caligari..."
So right I was...
 
It's rubbish. Watched to 50 minutes suspecting what the plot would reveal (at around 50 minutes it confirmed it).

It's been done countless times before. :yawn:
 
Really enjoyed this film :) I was really shocked by the twist. But just out of curiosity people saying they could tell the twist from the start, how? I must be really slow as it really shocked me!
 
Yeah, It is a great movie in so many aspects. My daughter and I are discussing it even now (as she's just this moment finished watching it).

She finRAB the whole theory interesting, and certainly would be interested to hear from the director and the writer's point of view.

Everything is so subjective, but the writer and director must have had their own thoughts about what they hoped the audience would get from it.
 
I enjoyed it too, though it's very bleak!

I did kind of see the twist coming, it was gradually revealed through various hints throughout the film. But I don't see that as a bad thing, as some on here seem to - isn't that a deliberate plot device?

Superb acting from Ben Kingsley and from Leonardo DiCaprio- I really felt for his character, a good ending I though but certainly not a feel-good film! My own fault for going to see it before going on a night out!

Only one problem though... was it just me or were there a quite a lot of continuity errors? HanRAB .etc jumping to different places as the camera angle changed. Could've been intentional I spose as some were in the 'dream' sequences.

Other than that, great film. Wibble wobble four and a half eggs out of five wibble. :)
 
I don't find it very subjective at all. Literally the whole movie leaRAB up to the revealed climax, from the very first scenes on the boat even. I'm not one to take things at face value, but I think there's too much pointing to the explanation given and very little pointing to the conspiracy side.
 
I agree. I think the consipracy stuff was a red herring - just misdirection. In the context of the story:

It was part of his delusion, based on his actual experience of fighting the Nazis in the war.

That was my take, anyway.
 
It took me about halfway through the film before I guessed the twist. But I thought that it would turn out that
he had always been a patient there, and had never been a police officer at all
so it was a proper twist in that
he had actually arrived as a cop and only been there for two years.
