Shutter Island - new Scorcese film trailer

Going to see this film this evening.

Can't believe how long it is  and from what people are saying, I don't know if I'll enjoy it. But! I do very much enjoy good cinematography and the like, so I'll just concentrate on that, and not the confusing story line :D

I wanted to see Green Zone :(

This was my problem...for me

The twist was a let down...it was expected from the beginning and just let down the whole movie for me

That was my opinion at the end also...for him
to eventually realise what he'd done and regress back to that in a matter of what seemed like minutes was too easy. I so wanted it to be a conspiracy and actually left the cinema thinking that it was all a conspiracy they;d just managed to convince him that he was mad when really they're the ones at fault

I don't know, for a movie i had built up for months it was a big let down. It may not have been had the trailer not looked as good as it did.

I really liked it. I suppose it was a bit predictable what was going on (I predicted it anyway!) but I thought it was put together really well. I suppose if you expect certain things, then it's not going to live up to that, but if you take it for what it is, it's good. That might not make sense, but I'm trying not to give away any spoliers!

It looked fantastic too, visually.

To be honest, after seeing it the second time, it's probably going to be one of my favourites of the year. I think it's impeccably put together, the music, the structure, the b-movie homage, the acting, the cinematography. Watching it knowing the whole story every scene, the acting, the directing choices, everything had a new depth to it.

This film isn't about the twist at all, it's about the story. It had much more emotional impact on me the second time too. I think people expecting some twisting thriller are bound to be disappointed, but the more I think about this film the more I believe it's utterly brilliant.

Edit: Also I'm sure I read a review that mentioned it being two films. The one you see the first time, and the one you see the second. For me that was absolutely true, the first time, I had an idea of the basic twist, but it kept me guessing, kept me wondering, and worked as a thriller. The second time, knowing exactly what it was about, it became something else entirely.

I thought the movie was a bit slow at first, but the story built up gradually and i thought it was really good. I kind of guessed what was going on, but i still enjoyed it and it was beautifully shot, giving the viewer a real sense of the bleakness of the place. Going to see it again next week, cant wait!

I hate using spoiler tags but...

I realised that it was her maiden name, but I thought that women in the 1950s generally took their husband's surname. So what I meant was, in the US women add their husband's surname to the end of their name whereas in the UK they completely change their surname.

I was specifically referring to the significance of the clue on the piece of paper.

A very slow film, and sometimes confusing, half way through I decided I had no idea what was going on! I think I'd watch it a second time so I could pick up on the clues. For example right at the start...

When arriving on the island all the guarRABmen are on high alert, which we are let to believe is for the missing prisoner, in fact it was for him.

A question...

What was the significance of the plaster on his head?

I saw this today and whilst it was a good movie, that was all i felt. Good film but nothing special. It was acted and directed brilliantly but being a Scorcese picture you wouldn't expect anything less. Like a previous poster mentioned visually the film looked amazing.

All in all i was expecting to be blown away but i think my expectation was too high and i also guessed what the twist was
with the main character
.

I seen it tonight. It was very slow to start and I was starting to get bored; a couple on frot of us walked out!

Then it picked up and began getting interesting. I am not a massive fan of the dream excuse and I was honestly expecting that to be the conclusion, but the end cleared it up for me.

It was a decent film to watch. Nothing extra special, but it got better as it progressed.

One question...

When he regressed at the end, was that meant to be a genuine regression or was he purposefully saying that to 'trick' the shrink because of his guilt? Or... was it genuine and he was being taken for a lobotomy anyway?

Now that i've seen the film i can understand why it was pushed back from Oct/Nov Oscar buzz release to March 2010.

Good film but not worthy of Oscar praise.

Loved this film - thought the plot was great. The music was a bit loud and not needed during the drive into the compound at the beginning of the film - but that was it's only weakness. Thought it was great

Thought it was preposterous. Scorsese directs it superbly; without giving any spoilers away, he ramps up the paranoia until the audience is a bunch of stressed-out wrecks, then reveals the twist. Along the way he does a great job of simulating a migraine and plays some of the most threatening music ever composed. Very loudly.

But the twist is both guessable and disappointing, and the explanation that follows is barely credible. It's worth seeing, but no masterpiece.
