Shutter Island - new Scorcese film trailer

In my eyes i think it was genuine.
He was a goner at the end.

And like the previous poster mentioned i couldn't believe how loud some of that music was! Very threatening and menacing indeed!
 
apologies - i havent read this whole thread, so sorry if this has come up already...

I read the book some while ago and i am rubbish at remembering details from books - i remembered it was a good book and the basic premise but after watching the film i really felt that some core element was missing in comparision to the book - but i can't put my finger on it..?
 
I thought it was brilliant. I had no idea what to expect and I loved it.

Loved the set, the idea, the cast etc.

I guessed the twist quite early on but I still enjoyed it and the extra parts of the twist were quite enjoyable to watch.

Nice to see how it was all wrapped up.

The dead children in the lake scene was horrible to watch and just the most painful, haunting thing imaginable. The packed cinema was in complete silence.

As for the ending...

I personally felt he was faking it and just wanted to end it all.

Shutter Island plaster on head
one theory is that
it is concealing the scar from his previous lobotomy.

Not sure if that works for me but it may be the correct answer.
 
I would agree about the music, it's so loud that I thought the speakers were going to peak. I could tell the twist a mile off but the the final kick at the end is good. I would actually give this film 9/10.
 
It wouldn't after 35 minutes - i just assume you do not have the mental capacity to appreciate this movie.

Those who don't expect their entertainment spoon fed to them will like it.
 
I loved this movie.

But talk about conspiracy theories? Where if any conspiracy theory was to be found, it really was hidden in plain sight and took place within the conversation between Teddy (Leo) and Rachel II (Emily Clarkson) in the cave. That freaked me out.

It's well known that certain nazi scientists were smuggled out of Germany by the CIA and hidden in South America and then later set up in psychiatric hospitals to continue their horrendous mind control. They were even successfully sued by former patients.

Google is your friend.

As for the rest of the movie.....well naturally it had to have the ending that it had to end any further ideas for the masses to think that mind control could even be possible..... and worse, its possible advances nowadays. :);)
 
It wasn't the dead kiRAB in the lake which affected me... it was the dead people at the concentration camp which made me feel a bit... Queasy

Films with concentration camps always make me feel a bit funny because I am really interested, yet sickened by what they are/were.

Speaking of which, this film is seemingly based on Nazi (and others) war experimentation
although we know it's not actually reality in this case
. Reading about such experiments freaked me out big style.
 
Good film. Thought Leonardo DiCaprio was excellent in it, too. It was a busy showing but for the most part, absolutely silent. That kind of intense silence where everyone is transfixed by what's going on. Particularly during the pretty traumatic 'reveal'.

However, I had it worked out quite early on. Not the finer details, but:

I had predicted that he would in fact be Andrew Laeddis, and even that the two names would be anagrams. However, I thought he would have set the fire and killed his wife, so I was wrong about some things. I hadn't quite got the whole thing sussed.

Still, a nicely crafted film. Quite moving in places, and with a downbeat ending. The trailer made it look like it was going to be more of a jumpy horror, so I was pleasantly surprised. And as I said, Leo was really impressive in it.
 
I really liked this film. Unfortunatley I read a bit of this thread before I saw it and I knew there was a twist. About half way through I worked out that he was a patient but to be honest I would have worked it out anywhere even if I hadn't of read it before because alarm bells were ringing when he kept on seeing his dead wife and the child when he was awake. Not normal. All in all I really enjoyed it. Reminded me again of how good an actor DiCaprio is. 9/10
 
Is her name not Patricia Clarkson? Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong person. But it's the one who was in a few episodes of Frasier, I think. She was really good in her minor role, anyway.
 
Just back from the cinema.

I saw aRAB for this last summer in USA, and read the book a few weeks ago in anticipation. Lehane at his best.

The film was much what would be expected from Scorcese, and brilliant acting from di Caprio. The book goes into greater detail, and is more chilling than the film. Obviously a 2 hour film can't include every little detail, but some clues to the twist were totally left out. I also thought the twist was quite obvious from early on in the film ..... ?

Very atmospheric and as others have said, the music makes your heart beat a tad faster !

Enjoyable evening out.
