"Shrek Forever After" Pre-Release Discussion (Spoilers)

The trailer was bad and I'm not hesitant to say that this franchise is dead creatively. Shrek has no moral authority or ground to make fun of or parody Disney anymore at this point. They are using a recycled TV plot. I'm not saying the movie won't make money because it will. But its clear they aren't even trying anymore.

They are making sequels just to pump out more sequels and merchandising garbage.

I found the first Shrek charming and endearing despite its flaws. It got progressively worse from there. What really killed the franchise? Losing Elliott and Rossio after the first movie.

From what I hear Elliott and Rossio were offered to write Shrek 2 again but they turned it down for whatever reason...however, Rossio was a creative consultant on 2, so maybe that's why Shrek 2 is fairly watchable? *shrug*

As for the trailer, I'm not sold yet, but I will admit Fiona punching Shrek in the face in slow-mo made me lol.

Once again, the title is fluctuating for a Dreamworks animated film. Is this Shrek Forever After or Shrek: the Final Chapter? Between this and Dragons, it's my feeling on the matter that a studio that can't keep consistent the titles of their animated films probably shouldn't be in the animation business.

I'm not hyped for it or anything, but I'll check it out. The Shrek franchise is 2 out of 3, so no need to over-react and claim that the series has been ruined. They can always rebound.

They showed the trailer to the new Shrek movie during TBS's airing of Shrek 2 and Shrek The Third this weekend, BTW. First time I've seen the movie advertised on TV so far.

Those were official changes. Dreamworks is doing this bizarre, "change the title for the marketing" thing. I kept thinking I was hearing things when they kept addressing HTTYD as just "Dragons" in the TV spots.

I'm not as hyped up about it like I am with other things movie-wise(*coughNationalTreasure3cough*), but it does look a little better than the 3rd one. I'm gonna check it out.

I think the 1st and 2nd ones were definately better than the 3rd one... the overall plot of the 3rd and how they portrayed characters like Prince Charming and Fiona's mother was kinda "meh" compared to the 2nd one.

I feel the same way about the 'Shrek' series, plus the fact that it set the standard for how all Dreamworks movies, and other 3D animated films not from Pixar would be, as well as Hollywood's assumption that pencil animation is now dead.

DreamWorks is advertising this as the final chapter in Shrek's story...but what exactly was the point of the story? What will we have learned when it's all over? By comparison, the first movie had a point. Shrek is an ogre who falls in love with a beautiful princess. Fiona is a beautiful princess who turns into a ogre at night and wants to break the spell. So, okay, I get it. Beauty is on the inside. But what about the franchise? What's the story here? An ogre gets into a lot of misadventures with his pet donkey?
