Seth MacFarlane to Reboot The Flintstones

To be fair, he usually doesn't write for his own shows. His pre-Family Guy stuff (Larry and Steve, Johnny Bravo) is pretty tame in comparison. Personally, I think Seth himself would treat The Flintstones respectfully; it's the writing crew he brings over I'm worrying about.
I agree with everything you just said. I think he's the laziest, most arrogant guy working in animation today. He's so full of himself that he doesn't even try. He just does the same crap over and over again.
The really annoying thing is that I think he probably could produce something good (maybe even original) if he wanted to. (I loved the first three seasons of Family Guy and am a big Johhny Bravo and Dexter's Lab fan.) He just doesn't care enough to make the effort. He seems to have this "These people will watch anything!" kind of attitude. He also clearly has zero respect for the medium of animation. I've really disliked him for a number of years now.

I'm cautiously optimistic.
This is a shoe-in for The Cartoon Network down the line. Possibly even in the first year of airing. Though depending on if it's going for PG or TV-14 it would likely end up on Adult Swim and that'd be fine I guess. I kind of wondered what an Adult Swim Flintstones revival might be like and now I guess I'll get my answer. Or rather I get Seth MacFarlane's which is well... the same thing really.
I'm sure the strong relationship with Turner and the MacFarlane camp at FOX was was very helpful in getting this project off the ground. I'm honestly amazed that Warner Bros. Animation is doing a co-production with 20th Century Fox Television and it's going to be on FOX prime time rather than going straight to the Turner networks. This is a huge collaboration and could open up some very interesting possibilities should it prove successful.
I was writing a list of Hanna Barbera shows that are ripe for revival for The [Real] Scratch Pad and unfortunately I didn't get that up before this news broke but The Flinstones was #1 on my list. It just made a lot of sense to me. Prime time sitcoms have never been bigger and more accepted than they are today and The Flintstones was due for a comeback and the most viable choice because they never truly left us because of Flintstones vitamins and Pebbles cereal. Well now I might be able to give that show's slot to another well deserving family sitcom.
As for MacFarlane's involvement, it makes a lot of sense. While I'm sure there are plenty of people in the animation industry that would be great choices for heading up a Flintstones revival, Seth MacFarlane's history at Hanna Barbera, his love of the franchise and his constant references to it in his other shows make this seem like a very good fit. I know he can be funny and I don't think he's going to do wrong by The Flintstones but he might not bring anything new to the table either. Can't say I ever expected MacFarlane to bring back The Flintstones much less do so with FOX and WBA. Consider me very interested in this development.

Calling it: Dino will talk and hang out with Fred and Barney, teen Pebbles will be the typical rebel, teen Bamm-Bamm will be a moron, Gazoo will be on every episode, and there will be another set of neighbors which will be talking animals.
Where are you getting these accusations? He's aiding on working on three shows, now four, on one network at one time, probably making him one of the busiest guys over there. He was approached by the studios to make Cleveland Show and now Flintstones, and most of the time, he doesn't actually write the scripts in his shows, he just oversees most of the production and does voice work.
In most of the interviews he's gotten, he's shown either uncertainty or indifference towards the current state of his cartoons, I've never seen him to be arrogant or greedy or anything.
It's not like Seth is walking up to FOX executives going, "I have an idea for a family sitcom!", they're walking up to HIM and asking, "Would you be interested in making another family sitcom?".

Seth MacFarlane is directing a live-action film with Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. I get the impression that MacFarlane wants to start a new phase of his career. So, The Flintstones may turn out to be something different than his usual animated shows.
Plenty of people, even the execs that approved this weren't 100% sure Seth might do a good job with this.
No one's saying Seth is incapable of handling this, but people are (and rightfully so) worried that he might turn The Flintstones into "Family Guy in the Stone Age". Even if Seth adds all his "staples" (check back my first post in page one), this has the potential to work, but given Seth's track record, I can't say I blame people for being worried.
Bottom line: If we get a show where we can replace Fred, Wilma, Barney and Dino with Peter, Lois, Cleveland and Brian and still be the same thing with a different time period, then there's a problem. If we don't, I'll throughly watch and support this.

The same guy who does Family Guy? I "yabba-dabba-don't" think so. The original show may have aired in primetime originally, but it was still 100% family-oriented (yes some jokes/gags were written for older viewers, but still).
