Funny, I just checked the callendar, and it didn't say April 1st.
Seriously, not only is MacFarlane leaning on his generic "fat dad / hot mom / awkward kids / mean baby / eccentric supporting character who woudn't normally have the ability to talk" family sitcom formula for the fourth time in a row, now he's not even bothing to to take five minutes to come up with new character names, he's just gonna remake a fifty-year-old show that was already an animated remake of The Honeymooners? There's lazy, and then there's LAZY.
I mean, I haven't watched The Flintstones in probably 25 years, and it's not like it's some kind of sacred cow (as I said before, the original series was just a prehistoric rip-off of The Honeymooners), but it boggles the mind just how little effort MacFarlane has put into his post-Family Guy shows. Matt Groening's Futurama has NO characters or basic dramatic/comedic situations that are directly based on anything in The Simpsons. Aside from the similar art styles, the shows are as unalike as possible, while MacFarlane is essentially taking his $100 million and thumbing his nose at Fox, pocketing about 90% of the cash for himself and spending what little is left on the actual writing and production on his assembly-line cartoons. It's shameless, utterly shameless.
