Screen Select (DVD rental)

Hmm. It's a good-looking website but why - considering their much-vaunted their love of film and their relationship with cinemas and organisations offering screenwriting and film appreciation courses - do they make exactly the same kind of cataloguing errors as the more mainstream, less cinephile sites?

It's unfortunate that DVRAB365 don't acknowledge Truffaut as director of Fahrenheit 451 or Shoot The Pianist. But when LOVEFiLM recommend The Conversation as a great conspiracy movie, but apparently don't know it was made by Francis Ford Coppola, that's just shabby.

As far as newsletters go, I believe Webflix send me one with the week's new releases. But I'm not a subscriber, having found their site very disapppointing. Let's hope this industry gets its act together.

I joined around the beginning of Feb. An all was going well until they blatently ignored my top 15 Priority one selections and chose a Priority two disc.

I would have got nothing (I assume) if I had only the Priority one selections.

They also have a habit to receiving the disk back one day and shipping the next one the evening of the day after, which then arrives 2 days after that. So you can only watch 3 per week based on a 3 disc package. OK so it's just over a pound per disk but I would hope for more of what I wanted.

Finally I have had 3 disks with read problems on them and I have 3 DVD players available to try them on. And if subscribers look at the disks they are mostly scratched to hell.

I will also complain but I think I will trial someone else.

I'm currently trying out these 3 on Free trial:

dvRAB365 - 3 at a time 14.95 (will only send 1 at a time during trial though) So far had my 1 sent out the next day after registering. It was about 5th choice out of 25 so not bad

Videoisland - similar price for 3 (after 5 days my account has still not been processed so i'll give these a miss I think)

ScreenSelect - 3 at a time 14.95 a month and they sent out 3 from my top 5 after 2 days which is impressive. Although I've been a bit put off by some negative feedback on here...hmmmm

Really impressed by DVD365. Tried Choices Directs ERental, no problems, but DVD365 seem to turn the discs around quicker.

If I post them first thing in the morning they are rec'd the next day with me receiving my new discs the following day.

Can get through 3-6 discs a week.

Hello,
this is my first post so here goes...
I joined Screen Select 2 weeks ago and have viewed 10 discs in that time with 3 more tomorrow, and that's still in the trail period
(I got a 1 month trail code if anyone wants it)
i think the biggest issue is damaged/scratched discs, sure they will replace them for you but thats another 4-5 day turn around.

kevzee

we joined Choices Directs ERental last week.. so far had no problems.. had all out top films sent out.. but will find out how good soon then the new matrix is out as that is our new #1.. i was told by a friend that most of the time if your a new member these companies treat you well.. but when you`ve been with them after your trial.. then they let you down..

there fast.. post from out local post box is picked up at 7pmish. so if we get a watched DVD in the box before then.. the next film is sent out the next day..

we joined these as our local blockbuster is awful, we rented a NEW film of them.. Got home was badly scratched and had a boot print on the disk.. Took it back they looked at us as if WE`D done it!! And also the store stinks of aniseed?? (we only have blockbuster here now)

To be fair, most of them will send out your first choice DVRAB when you take the trial. 2 months later diwn the line, and you are lucky to get your first choices. I've just received Pirates of the Carribean and Jeepers Creepers 2 today, which I asked for a few months ago. I'm not too bothered though because I've got to watch other films that I've enjoyed more than I thought I would,

Just noticed that Tesco have started dvd online rental - but it looks suspiciously identical to what I already use - video island.
