Scariest Film of all time

The Exorcist really scared me, I saw it when I was about 14 and had to stay in my frienRAB house that night as the loft is in my bedroom (didnt tell my mum and dad why). Reading it again now for the umpteemth time.

The begining of Bogeyman, when the little boy is in his bedroom, that really scared me... the rest of the film wasnt up to much though.

I really want to see The Eye now having read the posts about it on here..

I saw a film when I was quite young about a woman who is left her grandfathers house, and there are these little demony impy things that lived in the chimney. At the end she tried to fend them off using the flash of her camera but they get her and trap her with them. Cant remember what it was called, but it scared the crap out of me. Does anyone remember it and what it is called? :)

Has anyone seen Dog Soldiers with Sean Pertwee? It's not really scarey but it is brilliant. It's about some British soldiers on manouvers in Scotland and they come across a Werewolf. I wont say anymore, as it is (apparently) on this Wednesday on channel 5 I think.

1st time I watched it I was at a halloween sleep over when I was 12. Was very scared. lol
I've just bought it on DVD, as far as I know it's only available on Region 1.

Clowns still scare me. :D
 
The Haunted is one of my fav films. The part that gets me the most is at the very end of the film, when they have moved into the new house, and the woman hears her mother calling her. (Skins crawling now!) That's scarey!!

The original Haunted (1963 I think), the bit that got me in that is when the two women are in the bedroom and the banging starts :eek: , and the bit when she thinks some one is holding her hand, and there is the face in the wall paper!! :eek: :eek:

The Thing is also brilliant, I will always love that film. :)

Evil Dead 2 (I think) at the beginning when he looks up from the puddle of water he is lying in...and he's possessed. I sh*t myself.! Thats one of my jumpy moments in a film.

And the Devil Rides Out.. great film, not scary but the underlying tone is!! What was the authors name, I read quite a lot of his books?

Alien and Aliens are classics!! Didnt think much of 3 & 4. Pratically knew the script to Aliens!!
 
The Shining is probably the most overall scary film of all time, though the first murder in Suspiria made me poo myself (admittedly I was only about twelve at the time). Watcher In The WooRAB is pretty damn scary for Disney too.

Ooh, and Sapphire & Steel (TV I know), the one where the man didn't have a face - that scared the pants off me.
 
John Carpenter's version of The Thing is horrifying, mainly for the amazing special effects, which I'd never seen anything like before (I saw it for the first time around 1984 or 85)

I agree that the original version of The Haunting is very scary - I think they show it occasionally on TCM, so keep an eye out for it (OK, I just checked TCM's listings and it's not being shown again until Oct 31st)
 
wait a sec is it the one where

At the end he DID kill the wife and he comes and throws your man out the window?and he breaks the other leg aswell ?and marries the dancer?

I really enjoyed this film when it came out, I was 15/16 at the time, I have just in the last half hour received the DVD and am watching it now, though really I should wait until tomorrow morning, as I should be getting ready to sleep.

Anyone who hasn't seen this should watch it.
 
Someone mentioned Quatermass 2 - I remember seeing the late 1970's Quatermass on ITV and I couldn't sleep for a long time after that. Apparently you can get it on DVD but I'm worried it will seem rubbish now I'm all grown up, so haven't bothered... and also old TV, ditto The Children Of The Stones!

The stuff that makes the most impression is when we were younger I guess. I agree with the Dr Who Empty Child comments - my first thoughts after watching it was "that's gonna be an entire generation's most scary programme memory!"

Oh yeah, film. No-one's mentioned it yet so I may as well stick my head above the firing line, but I'll also nominate (DUCK!!!) Blair Witch. Brilliantly done IMHO, excellent performances and perfect technically for what it was (really creepy realistic sound). Also admire it for being low budget and ballsy. Shame they've all done stuff all since... the curse of Blair Witch indeed...

I remember watching Paperhouse a few years ago - I caught it a couple of times (on C4 I think). Really excellent film. Very, very haunting indeed. You've reminded me to put it in my rental queue (if available), so cheers! :)
 
I remember watching a film with my dad when I was 6 and I can remember vividly what happened but have always wondered what it was called so can any of U guys help me out? It starts with a little girl running through a forest and she runs past a childlike scarecrow thing, with what looks like a jammy dodger for a face. The scary jammy dodger starts chasing the little girl through the forest. Can't remember what happens then but later on it cuts 2 a scene where a man and woman are feeding two children in a cottage in the forest. As the woman is giving the children their tea the man says, "these are not MY CHILDREN!" He starts going mad and starts ripping his skin off and theres loaRAB of blood and guts and all the bone comes out. Scared the crap out of me then and still would now. I'd love 2 know what this films called.
 
Some films you remember being really scared of at the time. You just know that if you watched them again, you'd wonder why.

Nightmare on Elm Street scared me witless the first time I saw it. Only film I've ever had to switch off and have a breather from.
The first half hour of 'Jeepers Creepers'
'Dark Waters' (Japanese version) I'm not into subtitled films but this was gripping.
Likewise 'Audition' very strange but compulsive viewing the girl in it makes a really sinister sound with her mouth.
Haven't seen 'Race with the devil' for several years and that probably wouldn't be as scary as I remember (being remade too)
'The telephone Box' is a short spanish film - no speech and I was only about 8 when I saw it but it scared me.
I always remembered 'Dawn of the Dead' being one of my all time scary movies until i saw it again a couple of weeks ago. Bit disappointed now.
Can't think of anything else at moment, but, finally...I have never and will NEVER do the 'candyman' thing in the mirror...
 
Audition is absolutely freaky... one of the scariest films I've watched.

I just hope no one tries to remake it in the US. It really wouldn't work.
