Scariest Film of all time

Doh - I guess I'm playing 'catch-up' very badly. 'Hill House' the novel is extraordinary. See also The House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski.

adj.
Gradually increasing in volume, force, or intensity

Rear Window is an excellent Hitchcock film. Rent it on DVD - a must see. It starts off slowly and builRAB up towarRAB the end when I started shouting at the screen and sitting on the edge of my seat.

What's to understand? it's like an X-Files episode dragged out to feature length. It's based on a nonsensical book By John Keel which only gullible Yanks would ever believe is true.
In a nutshell Richard Gere takes about 2 hours to solve a mystery which most of the audience probably figured out 90 minutes earlier.
It's about as true as The Amityville Horror and makes even less sense; pass it by and try Audition, Whispering Corridors or any of the original Ring movies. They at least are genuinlely scary and don't have to pretend to be something they're not.
Incidentally, if you can get Film Four in Ireland, that's where lots of these oriental gost stories turn up.

Hello P. Nut.
The Changeling was never a film I could get into. All I remember is it about the dad that drowned the handicapped child in the bath as I just remember a wheelchair coming down the stairs.

It was Sam Rami who made Evil Dead.

The Devil Rides Out is a great film.

You know In The Mouth Of Madness that guy on the bike is actually John Carpenter. The guy below stars in this.
I do like Sam Neil though. I liked him as damien in Omen3 The Final Conflict. And this is a bit Sci fi now but have you seen Event Horizon. Of course you have I bet you like myself enjoyed Alien and Aliens.

Im going to shock you now as you know I love my horror but I have never ever watched The Wicker Man (shameful I know).

Yes what is that called that Peter Cushing one with the cursed antique shop?

I know this is old but I like it also an old hammer film "And Now The Screaming Starts"

Oh have you watched The Entity thats pretty chilling also.
Thats what gets me about The Entity and The Haunted both families move house and the spirit still follows them. Just got a chill up my spine then.

Hope to chat again soon.
I did download a lot of horror soundtracks. Do you have any?

After wading through House of Leaves, much of which borders on genius, it's a bit annoying to discover that the key is a lame pun based on the name of the publisher.

A lot of people get mix up with the various haunts, hills, hells and houses, so for the record:

The Haunting, based on The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

The Legend of Hell House, based on Hell House by Richard Matheson

The House on Haunted Hill, no connection to either of the aforementioned. :)

It wouild be a shame to spoil it for you. Read Stephen King's story first, it really is scary, then avoid ever seeing the film or any of its increasingly dreadful sequels. There are lots of them: for my sins I've seen them all and I've no idea why.

Don't look down on Scream, the first scream was a classic modern slasher film, opened up the doors for horror in the mainstream again. Even though most are a load of crap that come out.
