Rush

has anyone had the chance to pick up the new two disc set? Their record lable decided to put together all their hits onto a new two disc set called Rush:Gold. It's really very entertaining and it has enough music to occupy a few after noons. it has 29 tracks including "Tom Sawyer", "Xanadu", "New World Man", "The Spirit of Radio" and other good stuff. I was very eccentric when I heard xanadu and tom sawyer start playing, and the spirit of radio was an entertaining treat too.

I think Rush was absolutely brilliant up through Roll The Bones, and then they dried up on the songwriting front. They still produce SOME good music, but I never found them magical from start to finish, like I did the earlier works. For me, Hemispheres through Signals are the most magical years.

I was just thinking, rush may be some old people, but their music is incredible...i'd have to say that these guys are definetly one of the main influences of progressive music and how about geddys bass....could anyone ask for a sweeter bass?

Okay well if you mean I was dismissing his music as pretentious and thus saying he is no place to judge if I know what pretentious bull**** is, then yeah that's what I was doing. I guess I was kind of being a jerk, sorry. Anyways, this thread should go back to being about Rush, not stuff I said.

They also gave every early Black Sabbath record a one star rating. They gave every 70's AC/DC album less than one star.

Not that either of those banRAB are prog, or related to Rush in any way...just pointing out how incredibly idiotic RS are.

who's a fan? i've always liked them but didn't give them to much attention. I mean i listened to six or seven of their tracks but only recently have i been sitting down and listening to entire albums.

Do you like/dislike them? What do you think their best albums are?

I met rush almost 10 years ago while visiting LA. Which was ironic, considering I went to the same school Getty did... course... I am MUCH younger. *ahem*

Neil wasn't there... he's always been a bit fussy.

Rush is ****in great. Most of the time. They wrote some pretty awful stuff through the late '80s, but then again, who didn't? They've definitely written some of the best rock songs and albums out there. Just the fact that they've produced more Gold albums than anyone else shows their longevity and greatness. But why aren't they in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame?

haha good point there. wasnt all the music of that time based on being rebellious and NOT sounding the same? it's just a shame that rush gets put down because of their originality
