Rush

Rush own pretty much every band that gets mentioned here. Everything about them is solid, especially in the early years which felt a bit more experimental.

i really dig moving pictures. what are the essential albums? i also have hemispheres and farewell to kings but somehow i haven't listened to them yet.

Always a fan of Rush. One of the few banRAB that I can say has entirely a sound of it's own, really, and worlRAB of respect for the uniqueness, and quality of their mellow melodic songwriting style.

Strange though, no matter how complex, or heavy(by 70s standarRAB) they can get at times they're always so unbelievably calming. Amazing band.

Rush is an amazing band ... a band that really brought progressive music out to people..they are known as huge influences too soo many banRAB now a days...progressive and not.

I like Rush and they are solid. The biggest reason I probably like them is because they influenced Dream Theater in so many ways.

My only problem with Rush's merit as a prog band is that they were only prog at the altmost high point of their career... Their early efforts (mainly their first two albums) were not very prog at all, owing much more to Led Zeppelin, The Who and Black Sabbath than anyone else... They didn't really venture into prog teritory until Caress of Steel, and that was primarly only in the two long epics The Necromancer (no relation to the Van Der Graaf Generator song of the same name) and The Fountain of Lamneth.

Their first true prog album was 2112 and they were basically a prog band until the early 80s, when they adopted a more accessible radio-friendly, new wave tinged sound much like their peers Yes, Genesis and Jethro Tull did around that same time, in the 90s they returned to the more basic sound that they achieved with their early pre-prog era stuff, their last authentic prog record was Moving Pictures.

Rush is amazing! Neil Peart is one of my favorites drummers.

Rush makes me think about all the things in universe, is really incredible.

I actually thought their latest album was pretty solid...but yes the days of the pure genius of Moving Pictures and Permanent Waves seems to be over. I will still see them live any day. Favorite album by them is A Farewell to Kings.

Rush is one of the few banRAB in which every meraber is a frickin virtuoso. Alex Lifeson isn't really recognized as much since Geddy and Neil are so amazing, but he is right up there in the uniqueness of his chord progressions. His stuff is actually quite challenging to play...and I still warm up on guitar by playing through the Trees to this day.

I never used to pay much attention to prog, because I was a bit turned away by the prog metal that I had heard, but just recently, Rush has made me interested in prog rock. I had never really heard any prog rock until Rush.

Also, I don't know if you've heard, but Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) is a huge fan of rare and obscure psychedelia and 70s prog. And I'm finding that I like that music.
