Revival of the Moon Kingdom: Sailor Moon relicensed in Italy

Honestly, the only way I can see that is if Viz somehow gets the license. Bandai, if they would actually make a new dub (no guarentee) would likely use Ocean Group Westwood while FUNimation would use their own staff and Section 23 would just reuse the old dub most likely or go sub-only. The only other company I can see using the LA pool is maybe Media Blasters, but I doubt they have the cash for something as big as Sailor Moon.

In all honesty, I just hope the new dub would be more consistent this time. The frequent VA changes for Usagi/Serena got so ridiculous that the show became a running joke because of it.

If you enjoyed the first season of Magic Knight Rayearth, I say that the second season, which is just as good, if not better, as the first season, is also worth checking out.

Again, it looks like I'm one of the few people that actually enjoy Wedding Peach. A lot of people will probably disagree with me, but I thought that Wedding Peach took some elements from Sailor Moon, and made some improvements upon them, like Limone being more useful than Tuxedo Mask.

Anyway, I think that it's cool that Sailor Moon could possibly come back to America, as I think that it would be kind of fun to see the first season again, with a possible redub.

Wow, I'm kinda surprised the love for Sailor Moon is still here on the forums. Certainly nice to know!

But maybe we should know a bit more on what's going to happen over at Italy...

So, if I'm reading that right, Naoko Takeuchi would need to green light specific countries that can have the license? I never realized that she had that much control over the anime property!

It was probably one of those odd contractual deals that happened before Toei realized just how big a series could get. Kinda like how a couple decades ago American creators would let the directors and producers take credit for their ideas, which ended up screwing them out of millions when shows became a success.

It's not that uncommon, actually. Traditionally "gensaku" (original creators) have always had a legal say in how their work is distributed in Japan. It's just that usually they are a rubber stamp that don't get in the way of things as long as they get their check.

I'm not sure whether it's so true anymore, though.

I really enjoyed Wedding Peach too. On a sidenote it's actually the source of your avatar of Momoko which got me into the series in the first place. For those people who don't know the avatar is of Momoko from the Wedding Peach SNES game.

I also agree with you on the way Wedding Peach utilised elements and made them significantly better.

First and foremost are the characters. Say what you will about the plot of Wedding Peach but, unlike Sailor Moon, character development played a very important part and the show was all the better for it. I have had many a discussion with Sailor Moon fans about this and surprisingly many of them agree with it. Since Wedding Peach has a far smaller cast (another advantage point) more character development can be made. This is especially the case for Momoko and Yousuke whose romance is handled far, far better than Usagi and Mamoru's. It also helps that there are many glimpses of real tender romantic feelings between the two of them long before the end of the season. I'm thinking of Yousuke saving her in episode 2 as well as the hilarious football match scene. In contrast Mamoru and Usagi were pretty much at each other's throats until towarRAB the end of the first season when their identities were revealed and because their alter egos were in love it was all right.

Staying on the topic of characters I found the villains were also handled far better in Wedding Peach and in some cases were given proper character development. Igneous and Potamos come to mind.

I do have to admit though to not being a huge fan of the Wedding Peach OVAs. In particular the first and second episodes as the first episode utilises one of the most irritating and overused plot points. I was always told that this happened at the end of the TV series but thankfully this was not the case and was just haphazardly added to the beginning of the OVAs.

Back on topic it's great news that Sailor Moon has been re-licensed in Italy. Now that Toei seems to have relented I'm finally hoping many of it's other anime series (getting back to the mecha theme) such as Grendizer will stand a chance of coming out (even though from what I can gather that was partly responsible for the problem in the first place).
