The new Bond film has just been named on BBC news.
The title was a short story alongside For Your Eyes Only, though Bond was only a minor character.

You should definitely get in Fleming's novels. I have just finished reading them, and they were great books to read. Once you start reading them you will see that Daniel Craig's interpretation of the role is the closet to the way Fleming wrote it.

James Bond was created by Ian Fleming & so in my opinion there should ALWAYS be some sort of connection to Fleming.I'd rather have some Flemingesque movie title as opposed to some lame title..like 'Licence To kill' which in production was originally titled 'Licence Revoked' & the distributors changed it to 'Licence to kill'.
Now all the Fleming Bond book titles have been used, however have the producers ever thought of using the chapter titles from the Fleming novels...there are some great ones such as.....

Reception Committee (Dr.No)
Horizons Of Agony (Dr.No)
Background of a Spy (From Russia With Love)
Konspiratsia (From Russia with Love)
Death is So Permanant (DiamonRAB Are Forever)
The Quickness of the Hand (Moonraker)
Multiple Requim (Thunderball)
Slay it with Flowers (You Only live Twice)
The Gambit of Shame (OHMSS)

There you go there are 9 more 007 titles for you.....& there all from the pen of Ian Fleming...what you think?

I like Daniel Craig, I think he is a great Bond...

I just think they need to film the next five films back to back now, before his face wrinkles and crags beyond all recognition

At this rate they will be wheeling out Roger Moore to give Bond a more 'youthful' appearance...

Just looked up the name "Quantum of Solace" - it's from Fleming's collection of short Bond stories which also includes "From a View to a Kill", "For Your Eyes Only", "Risico" and "The Hildebrand Rarity".

Here's some info from Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_Your_Eyes_Only#.27Quantum_of_Solace.27

Quote: "'Quantum of Solace' is not a spy story and Bond appears only in the background. Told in the style of W Somerset Maugham, the tale has Bond attending a boring dinner party at the Government House in Nassau with a group of socialites he can't stand."

Interesting. I guess that the title and the boring dinner party are the only bits that will survive from the story?

Quantum = The smallest amount possible (roughly speaking)
of
Solace = Comfort

So it translates as "Minimm Comfort".

The song could go something like:

"He left me with a quantum of solace.
A microcosm of consolation.
I woke with a copius sorrow.
I hope he caught my genital inflammation."

I don't actually remember the last time a Bond film's name bothered me... I find I always end up talking about "the new bond film" as a pose to it's actual name.

"Seen the new Bond film?"
"Two tickets for James Bond please."
"The new Bond film is pants. It has an INVISIBLE CAR!"

I'm sure you get the idea!

You can still have all the cahracters etc created by Flemming, but what happens when all the short stories have been used up? It was good to see a re-boot, but it needed to go further. It is also good to see story arcs and hopefully this will continue. I used to be such a big Bond fan - not so much now, but its market is being eroded by the likes of Bourne and 24.

At least with Licence to Kill it does what it says on the tin - very similar to OHMSS. A short, snappy title like that is very Flemingesque, and it is part of Bond's 'job description' in the same way. Your suggestion of the chapter titles is a good one, there definitely neeRAB to be a Fleming connection. It's better that shoehorning something like The Hildebrand Rarity in because it hasn't been used! Or Quantum of Solace, ho hum.... ;)

The film had better be good, can't wait :D

Your right here - a stronger story would be preferable to action. I must say it seems that some of the stunts and set piece action sequences were a bit bizarre of late. Let the story dictate the action and not the other way around. I have no problem with the title.

Someone wrote this on another forum - about Craig as Bond. It's a bit over the top but I agree with the main assertion...

I have to agree. I dislike Craig's Bond - he just doesn't embody Bond to me. It's not whether or not he's more realistic, he isn't suave, cool, charming. There's more to Bond than just shooting a gun - the actor has to embody the character. I never see that when I see Craig as Bond and the new Quantum of Solace trailer reaffirms that belief. I won't miss him when he leaves the role.
