Procedures for Buying and Selling of BTV Receivers

I believe that $35 fee only applies if the used IRD is activated on a new account as the sole IRD.

If the receiver is not activated, I belive, whithin 60 days you would have a penalty of 179$ if I remember well. Best option just hook them to the TV, activate them and call when you sold it to deactivate it and leave the note that they are sold.

That said I would agree with Nimiq 1 that it would probably take a while before the receivers become obsolete...

OK, not quite 275 "Installations" per day but 275 calls per Day, including Move and Service calls.

And that is no exaggeration.

Over 100 Technicians on the road.

This is nuts. Existing customers should get the same of better. It makes no sense at all that we get less after being there for years.

Like I Want My HDTV, I would have thought that the system within Express Vu would pick up on the Telephone number of the line being used to call in to order PPV's.....

If not then it should, it would be yet another security measure to stop people moving receivers around.

So just to clarify, if I take my receiver away with me, which I know is against Policy and I were to hook it up to a Phone Line, there is no way the System know where I am calling from.? Is that correct.?

Agreed...last time I looked my account (on Bell's website) lists 14 receivers. Six of them were 6000s that Bell sent to me for ONE owned unit that they kept sending DOAs. I have talked and talked till I am blue in the face about these warranty replacements listed on my account.

By the way...my brother in law bought one of my 4700s and activated it on his sub and yet it is still listed on my account as well as on his...LOL. Some system Bell has.

The fun part is at one time I had five units active on my sub. I tried to online activate a new 4100...no could do as "I already had 14 on my account". Took a while and finally got someone on the phone and bingo the sixth unit was activated.

I would take it a step further and say you should never give out the smart card number to someone you don't know. Having both the IRD# and CAM# could result in someone messing up your account (not saying that it will, but has more potential). Using just the receiver number a CSR can give a potential buyer a thumbs up or thumbs down on whether or not the unit can be transferred.

Usually, having a balance is not the issue (the receiver can still be transferred - the balance left on the original accoutn), but if someone is trying to sell a rental then that is definitely an issue.

You can buy receivers even if you have the max on your account. You just can not activate it unless you deactivate one at the same time or previous to activation. I just bought a 6141S and I already have the max on my account.

Required a call to a CSR, I didn't tell them I had a new unit to activate. I just said I wanted to deactivate one of my units. Went through the spiel... then they said "that is done and is there anything else I can help you with today?".

THEN I ask then to activate the new unit. Works nice and smoothly as opposed to saying I have a new uint I want activated... LOL

Oops...my Dish contract reads tuners not IRDs.

Bell's still reads one IRD and up to five additional IRDs!!! My Bell contract (circa 1998) allows eight IRDs.

Guess I should buy a whack of dual tuner units...lol

My apologies!

Another important issue to note, if you do not call and de-activate your IRD, the buyer can simply plug it into a dish, point it at 91 or 91+82, and get all your subbed channels. Knowing this. it is suprising that Bell will not call previous owners to confirm the sale. The buyer with good intentions, could get frustrated and simply plug the IRD in and enjoy TV, on your tab.

Hello,
I only joined Expressvu this week, I purchased the 9242 at futureshop and had it installed by Bell.
a couple of weeks ago, i found a what looked to be a good deal, on a 4100 receiver for $30 on kijiji. so I bought it thinking I had nothing to lose since I was looking to eventually buy a second receiver for my 3rd TV.
However when I called a couple of nights ago, the rep said I couldn't activate it since the receiver was a rental and I had to contact the seller. I tried contacting him but no luck so now I wonder if he probably knew about it and took me for a ride.
Is there anywhere i can just bring it back to Bell or do I just throw it out? seems like a waste...
Thanks

Phone up and press the button for the cancellation department. They will ask why you want to leave and I am sure that they will do something for you.

The SOxxxxxxxx numbers match but my satellite LNBs seem to be switch as indicated by a system test. Oops I'll have to check those but it's too cold out right now.

When you call in to say that you sold your receivers we don't remove hem from the account. We deactivate thm, and make a note that you sold them and that you giver permissionto Mr X, Y or Z to activate it.

When the new owner of the rceiver calls we ask him the receiver number and type it in to make a search. It would give your account. We go into note and verify that there is a note stating that the receiver was sold. If it says sold to Mr X and the person calling says he is Mr Y we refuse to activate the receiver. If it says activate it to whoever calls in then we activate it. If there is no notes we shoudn't activate it and we have to tell the caller that he need to get in touch with who sold the receiver and tell him to get in touch with us so that he could give his autorisation and then we could activate it

I will tell you:"Why to care about it?"... The person who sold it to you will be asked to return it when he close his account and would be charged a penalty (usually more than the actual cost of receiver) if he doesn't return it.

If you still have the telephone number of the person who sold it to you you can always call that person and mention to him/her that the receiver was a rental, that you want to return it to him/her, and explain that ghe/she would have a penalty if he/she doesn't eturn it

You can also call Bell and request that they send you a box to return a rental unit. Agent might refuse since you are unable to provide info about the account, but with requesting a supervisor you will most probably be able to get one. The box they send comes pre-paid so there would be no charge for you to return it. You can also ask the supervisor for a credit, or compensation for going to all that trouble. He will very likely offer a 20$ satisfaction credit or 3 free PPV...

If the receiver has been disactivated the buyer/newowner can't order ppv or watch any TV ever again untill it is reactivted on their account, (a expressvu agent should know that;) . There is a 2700 still listed on my account that I sold a year ago to a guy in alberta, I don't care if it still shows up.

The equipment, ie. PVR and the satellite dish, makes you capable of receiving the signal. But you will need to subscribe to the service to actually activate your PVR and smart card so it decodes the signal. There are a number of packages available thru Bell. Generally, pick a package and add approx $10 per month if you want the HD programming. If you don't subscribe and pay for it, you will not get HD programming. I have Bell, so I cannot speak to the offerings of other service providers. Check providers web sites for detailed info on packages.

I would sell the 2700s, complete with cards. If you don't have an eBay seller account, try the Buy and Sell Forum here. 2700's aren't worth a lot these days but it should be worthwhile.
