Procedures for Buying and Selling of BTV Receivers

Do you think the smart card upgrade will be free from Bell or will I have to pay the $70-$100? If I have to pay I might as sell the receiver.

That's fine, then they should loan it to you for as long as you subscribe the unit.

Why would anybody PAY for something that you don't own?

Bell requires resellers to take all your information so that if a unit is not activated within a given period (I believe it is 30 days but I am guessing) then they can charge an addiitonal fee. This was primarily put in place as these units (in theory) are sold at a loss, as Bell expects to make up the difference in monthly fees. People were buying them and then hacking them, never subscribing.

Since the unit has not been activated, you should be able to give (sell) it to your friend without any issues. The easiest way to activate it is online. All he needs is the receiver number and smart card number.

Although I doubt it will be an issue, worst case if he has difficulties activating it, a simple call to Bell saying you bought it for him as a gift or, the truth, you sold it to him, should resolve it.

Although I'm not sure I have ever heard of anyone actually getting charged for non-activation ($200 comes to mind) I wouldn't push your luck too much (they do have your credit card info) and would either sign up yourself or sell it to your friend and get it added to his account sooner rather than later. Getting money back is a nightmare.

Cancelling the account and autorising the transfer of the receiver is 2 different things...
A receiver can be transferred at any point during the month, regardless of the programming that has been already paid.
Rental receivers can not be tranferred!

When an account is cancelled the receiver is still registered in the account of that person and can not be transferrred unless the person calls Bell and notifies them that he sold them. Cancelling the account doesn't mean client autorise the transfer of the receivers

Is anyone sell 5900? I want to get 2 of them. I called Bell to buy a refurb that someone told me about and they told me that they don't have any. So let me know if you want to get rid of one or where I can buy one used. Thanks

I went to Bell website and I selected things just like I was purchasing receivers without completing the final payment.

I picked one 9242 with the 325$ rebate and added one normal HD and two SD receiver. I ended up with a total of 1097$ plus 3 installations for an additional 150$.

My questions are :

Can I buy just the 9242 immeadiatly and ask the installer to install my SW44 witch I will need later?

If I add 3 used receivers witch I will personaly install will I have to pay 50$ for each activation?

My installation is very easy because I actually own 4 Star Choice receiver and I will use the same RG6 filage.

Is there something I'm forgotting except the fact that I need 5 lines?

Thanks a lot

Maybe you should revise your info...Bell's call center in montreal were voted best customer services center for 2006

Ex Agent brings up a good point. Is this receiver on a Rental Contract.?

If not, he needs to call Bell and tell them he sold the receiver to you and then it should be possible to add it to your account.

I can provide an even more bizarre scenario and this has happened quite frequently.

A Tech gets issued a "Move" installation, he contacts the customer because the address does not appear in Map Books or on-line, Mapquest, Google maps et al. The telephone is answered and when he requests directions the person says, and trust me this really does happen, "I don't know how to get here, it was dark last night and I have no idea what the major intersection is".....

Now thats quite amusing, as a third party but the Tech is now driving round looking for an address, the customer is home, and any calls into Express Vu result in the Tech and Installation Co being penalized for not being there and doing the call "within Interval".

Its an impossible situation that is not helped because Express Vu insist on using the Postal Codes as THE primary part of the address for issuing jobs. Do you know how many installations we get DAILY that have out of province phone numbers, because the customer has moved from Ontario to, say Nova Scotia and the CSR has used the OLD postal Code on the order because the client did not know the new one.!!!!

95% of our orders per day are incorrect. 10% have no-one home when we arrive, mostly because they did not know we were coming.

Come on Express Vu, work WITH the installers not against them

I have sold a few receivers and they seem to be off my account. They don't show up online and I have never been asked about them.

Receiver ID numbers are tracked in a database and the ranges associated with each provider are known. Providers will not activate a unit from another provider for a number of reasons, the main one being that it is not from their inventory. Getting a used unit to "switch" firmware between providers is not always easy (although in some cases it is) and that is another reason it is not supported. The card would have to be replaced as well, so this usually makes it cost-prohibitive.

Thanks OKSAT, I think from what radiologist46 is saying, even if you spoke French to him it would not matter. LOL.

Hey Nimiq1...275 a day??? How do you manage so many? :) If those were SC you'd be retiring in a short time Boy..They (SC) pays more and on time than Bell does.

All the best.

I actually called in to tell them that I sold a 3100, as I wanted to make sure it was removed from my account. I also gave them the new owner's name ( a friend). He called in to activate it, and was not able to do so. Not sure exactly what the conversation went like, but know that he was denied because the receiver was not registered to him but to someone else with his surname. So it turns out I told them who the new owner was, by name, they registered it with someone else, and he could not get it changed to his name unless I called in to verify the info. That is an enormous hassle to go through for him, me, and anyone else.

You shouldn't have to do any of this, and the mistakes they can make are not worth the hassle. Sure, tell them that you sold it so it is removed from your account and protects you from someone else making PPV purchases on your dime. Let the person who buys it take care of the rest. At that point, what difference is there between the buyer buying and activating a NIB receiver vs this one he bought from you. Absolutely none. Do you think BEV is trying to weed out satellite thieves by tracking deactivated/re-sold receivers that aren't re-activated? That would be the only benefit to them doing it their way, and it would be a complete waste of time and effort in terms of battling against pirates.

At the number of PPV film ordered every month do you really think that we will go throught each film make that verifcation? And how do you think our systems are supposed to know?

Agonizing reading through 16-pages and I did not see a direct parallel to my story.

I bought two IRDs from the widow of a friend. Several months later my first gereration BEV 3500 would not boot. So I called BEV and asked that my N3 card be transferred to one of the purchased IRds; I think it was a model 4000 After some off-line deliberation, the CSR came back with the explanation that the card in the purchased IRD was too old; there was no N3 conversion available for it. I told him that I was about to walk; *C was waiting. He told me to do whatever I had to do. That offended me, a sub since almost Day-1!

When I cooled down, I parked the IRDs and am still debating my next move, not watching TV, of course.

Any advice?

That's right, Expressvu will not activate receiver's listed under someone else's name. The owner must call to transfer ownership.
