Potc 2

A absolutly fantastic film!!!!!! (A touch on the long side - but thats all forgiven for a cracking ending!!

May 25 seems a looooong way off!! ;)

i gotta say, i really enjoyed it and thought it was really funny and dramatic. But did anyone else notice a line on the island where Orlando Bloom suddenly slipped into a real american accent? Weird.
i cant wait for the third- its in mid -film right?

I happened to catch the Live from the red carpet thing on ITV 2. I showed a bit of background on how they did certain things in the film. The
wheel stunt took days and days and they had a camera man strapped in as well as a camera strapped to the outside
. Anyway during the usual craptastic interviews Kiera said that they had about three months worth of film left. I didn't realise Bill Nighy was in the film. I might have heard something but I didn't recognise him under all that make up/cgi with that accent!

I agree. :)

I predict that Miami Vice won't stay tong at the top. I saw it today and it's terrible plus it's gotten horrible reviews. DMC is about 10 times better.

Yes they have another three months of filming left to do.

I've seen it again tonight. Quick question - you know when Will takes the
key there is this musical heart that stops playing. Wasn't there a very similar heart on the table of that Tia witch woman's table? I noticed it when Jack stole the ring. Do you think Tia is the woman who broke Davy Jones' heart?"

Hmmm, seems like im the only one that is giving it a "meh - it was alright" rating! (well, me and my mate). It was a good film to watch, but the magic of the first film was totally lost. Sparrow didnt have as many good bits, some of the jokes were INCREDIBLY bad (please dont remind me of the "corset" line from POTC1 ;))...i'll post the rest in spoilers just incase:

The waterwheel scene was fantastic, i enjoyed that. However it felt like the first half of the film really dragged, and made no bearing on the plot. Oh, and speaking of plot, what the hell? I got so confused through it, one minute Will was on one ship then all of a sudden he was on another, blink and you miss it! And why do they want to get Sparrow back? He just duped them all, sent Will to Davy Jones, kissed his misses etc! I just dont get it

I agree with you, I loved POTC1, but I think the 2nd is better. Johnny Depp was hilarious and I think Orlando had a better part than in the last film.

wow, loved it so much, sexy johnny depp! was amazing, great storyline and plot, amazing characters the ending upset me though :(

OK I loved the first one but not this... I thought...

- Too long, there were too many drawn out scenes and pointless bits that could have been cut. The action sequences were often boring IMHO esp the one at the end
- Bad script - the Jack Sparrow jokes were scarce on the ground, I think there was one audible laugh in the whole film from the audience..
- Davy Jones wasn't all that good a villain compared to Barbarossa in the first one... and what was the point of Norrington in this movie?
- Weak ending

This was on Comingsoon.net website about the release of POTC2 on DVD in the US but I assume the UK release will be around the same time:

"Disney and Buena Vista Home Entertainment are planning to release 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' starring Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom, in both single and two-disc collector's edition flavors on December 5.

The single-disc edition will include a pair of writer commentary tracks and 'Bloopers of the Caribbean.' The collector's edition touts 8 hours of material (film included) and should consist of the extras available on the single-disc edition along with a plethora of featurettes, a look at pirate lore and more. We should have a clearer picture of the entire extras list shortly."

Terrific movie. I was worried I'd be a bit disappointed simply because that's often the case when you've been looking forward to something for a long time.

It was never going to be as fresh and surprising as the first movie, how could it be? But they've very intelligently developed it into a darker and more convoluted "movieverse" - none of the characters (Jack aside) is as straightforward or predictable as they were first time round, Elizabeth in particular, and, equally laudable, they've not overplayed the Jack trump: It would have been very tempting after his success first time round to purely concentrate on him, whereas, to the credit of JD's lack of ego and Verbinski's focus on the quality of the movie overall, the astoundingly "free" performance that made POTC1 so enjoyable seems to be catching and everyone seems to cut loose a lot more this time round, once or twice Orlando Bloom is almost tolerable :)

though I have to admit, I thought the "he's no use unless you're going to use him to hit someone" line in reference to an unconscious Will was a bit sneaky - is that an assertion there's something wooden about Mr Bloom? ;)

I was glad that I was expecting a cliff-hanger at the end, and it certainly increases my anticipation for next summer's movie.

The effects are superb, the action sequences thrilling, original and very funny at times and there are some genuine scares. It does drag a tiny bit at points, particularly during the first hour but that is a minor criticism and I would have been far more critical had they just done what so many sequels do and link a whole load of action sequences together with no respite: Yes, the plot is complicated, it's rather more a whole load of interwoven sub-plots - but that just gives me an excuse to go see it again :D and it did all ultimately make sense, although a good familiarity with the first movie kind of helped especially with some of the smaller details in which this movie is so rich.

Worth staying to end of the final credits as well - wonder it that'll feed into the next movie in anyway, after all, a knowledge of the end of credits scene in the first movie was well revisited in this one....

...and I'm sure Jack's not the first man to find "shooting his monkey" a good way to relieve stress ;)

Kinda fits. She seemed to fit the description she gave. Wild and untamable, like the sea. Would make sense as to why Jack was stealing things, to draw our attention to something else.

I saw it for a second time the other night and it was even better second time around. In fact, I think this is like Empire Strikes Back was to Star Wars. It takes it in a different direction and makes it darker and more dramatic, but without losing the fun that was there before. I think this film will be looked upon even better as time goes by.

Loved, loved, LOVED this film! I thought it seemed a bit lacking in direction during the cannibal island scenes, as they seemed to have little bearing on the plot. But the rest of the film was bloody fantastic!

I do have one question, though. Did anyone else have a real, live pirate at the cinema? Half-way through the adverts before the film the lights suddenly came up and this crazy pirate came running in and started screaming about buried treasure at us. Turns out it was an advert for a Volvo treasure hunt (they've buried a car somewhere and if you can find it, you can keep it) He and his rather attractive lady pirate assistant then handed us all some chocolate money after the film. Fist time I've ever seen anything like that at the cinema!
